I noticed that many directories interlink with each other either through ads or listings. Is there a danger that the Google algo could mis-interpret this as a "link exchange network" and devalue all of these links, or even penalize the sites? also, many of these links are reciprocated, which could devalue them anyway Is there a danger of two much mutual interlinking?
i dont think so. interlinking is to grab buyers aswell. you buy a link on 1 site and spot the link, so go buy another from there too
I agree with Rob on this one. You can definitely go too far with too many links (especially if they are located on the homepage)
too much interlinking ad too many categories will get you rocked!. I made a directory with over 2.635 million categories. google banned it. I showed mystik what the serps were showing. 2,8000,000 indexed pages and even he nearly shit himself. The domain was later on banned though. It didnt matter to me though, as my testing phase on that was complete, and i took the knowledge i had gained form it and have been able to implemented it elsewhere, and extremely restrictive guidelines(my own) so as to not let it happen again. oh, and here is the site that is still standing. (wonder why david can say phpLD supports over 2,000,000 categories? yea, I'm sure you do now. what did you do? run a loop to make loads of pages. as if google banned you. i doubt they would have done if there was nice content on each page you should of sold some sitewides and made a quick buck rofl
I give/gave links for free. I don't QBC. Here, goto www.bigweblinks.com and see which category ranks the highest on PR (hint: http://www.bigweblinks.com/Real-Estate/ hahaha ) Hell, i even tried to make my www.linkdirectory.ws (pr 6) a reciprocal only web directory, and people fk'd that up too.

Read what I wrote. He was linked, for free(hence me saying' i give/gave/ free links, i do) of course, and look at the resulting PR I try to give back just in general. I'm not a greedy person. I don't claim I'm the best, I just do what I do, and try to help others along, ya know. Just sad when people ruin it for everyone, and you're trying to help out. Everyone else around her would immediately try to charge 25-35 for sitewides if they had a PR6 to spare, but not me, and still, people will call me arrogant? lol oooook

If i went to the bank and asked for a £10,000 loan, with the option to spend $10k on promoting my bidding directory and $10k on showing rob who is boss, i wonder if they would accept it. I'm pretty sure a would hit the front page on all social bookmark sites, gain mega backlinks and traffic, make shed loads of sales, paid the bank back within a few week, and taught Rob how to spend wisely
