What is the best way to decide which advertisers to advertise on your site manually? How do you decide which sites products or services are best for your site? I have a lot of different sites and some of course are obvious.. but some are not so obvious to figure out what a visitor vistiting the site might be interested in. For example.. I have a site about Roman History... how could I go about researching the best possible candidates .. I use CJ and Auction Ads.. Click Bank etc... Any suggestions?
Well in that case you have just to test it for a week or two and see what's performing best for your site / niche.
Man oh man.. it's not exactly a science is it? I've been testing but it's like looking for the white shirt at disneyland..
I know my answer is not 100% satisfying but I'm sorry there is just no other way you can understand what's working on a Roman History site other than testing a few solutions. Furthermore I'm sure two Roman History sites will perform differently because it depends on the geo traffic, etc. even the site design if you wish.
Yes that makes sense... I didn't mean to sound degrading or anything.. empirical methods always work best I'm sure as well.. I was just thinking there were more advanced ways professionals could use to help them figure out the best options. It would be an interesting skill to have.
You can, however, use 'guided' testing for your ads. For example, my guess is that a significant number of visitors to your Roman History sites will be students. Students, as a demographic, have commonalities (they are young, for example.) Targeting ads for old age insurance will not likely work. Start off with what you think will work best for your audience and then test around these themes. Just be open to surprising test results, of course.
