This is kinda silly, if anyone wants to test this, I'll be happy to volunteer a site for testing. Buy some links for me!

    Down another spot today.
The links are seen in Google's cache. Google knows all about them.

It does not make sense that this would work. The purchased links are just de-valued. You would actually be helping them out... since a link with little value is better than no link at all!

I agree, you're missing the crucial step for google to acknowledge the paid links. Maybe you could try this as well and see if that will speed up the process.

This is so wrong on so many levels. I can understand informing google of spam, or link farms etc.. but to just eliminate your competition like that is just wrong.

    Cheers!

What's more wrong is Google potentially having this mechanism in place to begin with. Of course people are going to exploit it, and the ones to suffer will be the good webmasters while the spammers and black hat crew benefit.

That's why i do not believe anyones report to Google will have any effect. All Google would be doing is gathering data sets to find similarities in paid links schemes, so they can refine the algo over time to place less importance on these link types.

    Simple as that.

Welcome to the zany world of corruption. It's almost like employing "hit-men" to take someone out.

Well this may or may not be true but what I can't see is what is the difference between paid links and a link exchange? Google cannot tell if you've paid for the links or not so what if you merely do a three way link exchange to get the links? Surely that would be just as unnatural so Google would penalise for that too by your theory.

Link exchanges for the purpose of manipulating the search engine rankings are not allowed according to the Google TOS.

Google hates people buying and selling links. If you want traffic from Google then you might want to stop before you end up like John Chow.

haha from the looks of it I wouldn't mind ending up like john chow but thanks for the information. How does Google know it was a purchased linked rather than a trade...?

G is putting some of the high-profile sellers heads on a stick to scare others. But from the look of the SERPS, its just a manual thang. (not algo)

Text Link Ads not ranking for their own name either...
