How did they make windows?

Project Shellfish is going to be another Operating system, but when/ if i do relase it it will certonly not be called Shellfish .

 

shellfish the new fresh minded approach of computer operating systems, built brand new from the ground up kept in mind what the user wants, a quick fast resource lite simple but effective operating system which is also cheap!!

i wish you good luck i have my self thought of doing this but it just seems to out of my league, but if you do stick with it keep them points in mind and make the os around that.

anyway didnt bill gates a long time ago sponsor apple and encourage them to grow thats what i read

Hands are needed to code in C language

So both are true they made windows by hand using C

 

Os can't be made by a single person....you need brilliant programmers and money..period

 

Most of it was created based on the original design by Xerox, concerning the user interface. After this design was implemented for the GUI, Bill Gates coded the interface from Apple's later designs into Windows 95+. Before then, Apple ruled the GUI of computers for the best design.

Overall: Apple = Perfect GUI based on Xerox's design --> Microsoft = a wannabe who eventually got a chance to reverse engineer the Apple 2 and turned the content into their coding language to create Windows applications. This PISSED off Billy's friend Steve Jobs who called him a cheat and a liar. It's funny how things turn out in business.

I need people to help me get the main desktop up.

 

You're severely under estimating the ammount of work and programming hour nesecary to write an even simple OS. Unless you have tens of millions of dollars of VC backing, its never going to happen.

I'm guessing you dont even know how to pogram.. Or "learning".

I will make it happen, i might not be the richest here, but it is deffo going to happen.

 

Possibly because Apple has an annoying and almost malicious way of bundling all its software with each other that makes it hard to choose what to install. And they preach not having preinstalled or bundle software when you buy a PC.. tut tut.

Anyway, Assembly Code is generally best for utilizing every last hertz of CPU power and is only ever used in scenarios where performance is absolutely critical, like boot time, drivers and so on.

Some of you may ask why, in this case, they don't use Assembly Code to write entire operating systems. Well.. because it takes so long to write simple statements, it would take literally years for the operating system to be written. Simply put, using C, C# or any other programming language means you're still writing to the CPU, but the interpreter simply converts it into instructions to the CPU (which essentially is what Assembly Code is). The reason why it's 'slower', is because the interpreter (or compiler) spends time converting more human language into CPU language. Simple

Good luck if you're learning to program, but you don't just make an operating system first thing. Sorry to wake you up to the facts but it probably won't happen. You need some practise first - just making general applications. For example, try making a word processing app

Vista was the last OS they used their old dev process for: a shitload of people all coding different parts.

They say for Vienna/Windows7 the development process will totally change and become much more efficient.

 

If you make one, make it really simple. Focus on making it do the basic things very well.

I would use it for day to day, and use XP for compatibility, playing games etc.

If you ever do get around to making it, I'd love to design some themes for it

 

A simple suggestion , how about trying to make a "simple" OS for handheld devices, just as the iPhones or other smartphone or "mini-laptops". Going fullscale head on, might not be the smartest :-/ Try playing around with Linux as well maybe. Oh well, just a tip and the best of luck!

 

maybe make sure it has its own USP. for example:

- fastest operating system
- best looking (hard to beat vista/os x)

etc etc.

You can't "just" create your own OS like that.
Have you ever created an application before? You need understanding in OS systems and YOU CAN make your own OS by yourself, but it takes alot time and you need alot of programming skills.
