scammer on elance

Hey.

I paid some guy on elance.com $175 to have 3, 15 -20 page guides written for me.

The business terms were 50% upfront ($175)
and it will be completed in 1 month.

It has now been 3 months.. i have asked him about 9 times for my guides and he keeps telling me he will send at the end of the week. He has said things like he has been overseas for business, and he wife was in a car crash and is in hospitle etc. etc.

I have the whole conversation saved.

What can I do here? I have asked for a refund but he is not replying to any PMs.

well if i dont get anything from him by the end of this week i will post it up here.. and contact the people at elance..

he said i will have the guides by the end of this week, so i guess i will give him this last chance..

I will also post his username/profile info if i dont get anything...


has anybody experienced anything like this before on elance? if so, what did you do?

 

Dont post here. Send it in an email to elance and leave the rest on to them

 

I've had this happen and elance is not that helpful. I would go cc (if you paid with a cc) and file a complaint before it's to late. Thats were I went wrong I waited to long and the cc company would not do a investigation.

 

Simple. Notify him he has 24 hours to deliver what he has done and then the rest of the week to deliver the rest. If he doesn't meet these terms, stop buying his sob story and charge back.

If he was reputable, he would have refunded your money for work he cannot complete due to other issues.

I've been burned once by this, and I waited too long and couldn't get my money back. Don't make my mistake.

Can you not chargeback? I wouldn't waste my time trying to get a reply, an excuse, or a promise. If there is any possibility of getting your money back, pursue that. And once you have exhausted that option, negative rep the heck out of these guys and move on.

How did you pay him? Paypal? CC?

 

just CC through elance.

I have had some progress with this issue tho.. I got an email from the director saying he is now handeling my project and I will get it in a week... Im interested to see how this goes... will update

 

My advice to you is to tell him to refund your money now.

There is a very good chance they are trying to lead you on further.

If you don't know the person and if they are in a foreign place, start small. Do one project/page/whatever at a time.

Understand this. When you do business with people in countries that have piss poor legal systems, you're playing Roulette. And sometimes the lure of cheap labor costs you.

 

Or just don't do business with people from India, it seems they'll be more than happy to rip you off any time.

The address looks residential to me. Probably a back room business.

 

My own question is why do you pay someone at Elance if there are many talented people hanged around this place.

I came over here because good trading comments posted at another site.

 

everywhere are scammers is not about the place
I never do bussines with people from country where it's not a good legislation in the domain.
if it is from india i think you can get your money back

 

I think you have no way to get the money back, like my case I wait too long to make a chargeback because i hope the provider will finish his work but every scammer will keep promise but they never do that so we will be in the trap. good news.. I have received 1 of the 3 guides.. .I am suppose to receive the other 2 within 24hrs..

I think I got lucky with this one.
