I was just wondering, what would be the going rate for persuasive letters or sales letters around 300 to 500 words in length?

Prices are all over the board. A decent copywriter will charge at least $60-$100 for that and good ones will charge $150-$500.

If someone is charging less, he/she is either:

    1. Not good.
    or
    2. Just starting out and trying to build up.

    Good luck!

I normally just look around the forums for people looking for such work and if there offer sounds good I offer my services and if the offer doesn't look good then I just keep looking :)

He's asking about advertising copywriting, not article writing.

And if you find someone charging $5 for 500 words of ad copy, run run run.

The discussion was about sales letter by the way, not an article.

It depends on the item/service for sale and the target demographic.

You people are definitely mixing things up! Can you really be writing sales copy for around $25 and is it not robbing yourself? It takes incomparably more time and effort to produce persuasive and high-quality stuff!
So as far as I know, around $100 is close to standard, like marketjunction observed :)

I've seen "copywriters" charging as low as $15 for website copy. Yes, copy. Like marketjunction mentioned, writers who are charging rates this low are often inexperienced and rarely ever effective.

Writers who charge rates that low only rewrite what's on other sites. Web copy cannot be regurgitated, so it's highly unlikely that you will get good copy for under $50.

Expect to pay more like $75+ for decent copy, $125+ for better copy.
