The only reason the other forum get's members at all is because it's linked from the submission process itself. Your forum is actually helpful, and while it's slow, and while the meta staff may want to see it taken down, neither are really reason to submit to such things.

Keep it alive as long as there are a handful of editors and ex-eds out there willing to help. It'll take a while, but it'll likely pick up steam. Promote the place via other directories and through the use of other methods. People will likely trickle in...

Either way, I'd not shut it down till you get that cease & desist letter from AOL itself. Which I'd actually assume will never be sent... and if, on the off chance it is, tell them to check out their version of your board and to ask themselves which actually fits within their code of ethics.

If 'resource-zone' is the problem, then let the guy that owns that go through all the legal trouble he needs to, then just change your domain name with a 301 from the last.

Nice tips but its www.dmoz-resources.com does not contain resource-zone, the www.dmoz-resouce-zone.com is no longer used just redirection purposes only.

If he ever succeed to get a cease & desist letter from AOL then I would like to buy it from him. :D

AOL has given up on DMOZ long time ago and In reality Admins and Metas such as orlady, Motsa, Jim "Noble",... are just a joke that AOL is not even aware of their existence.

Bunny, I like the new url better. However, in actuality, the title of the site is still "DMOZ Resource Zone". The forum is located on this sub-page: http://www.dmoz-resources.com/zone/ And, the tag on the root url says DMOZ Resource Zone by Webmasters.

If it were me, I would remove the word "Zone" from all of them. Set aside the legalities. Just consider the possibility that by having similar wording as the other forum, you are risking someone who is not completely in the know thinking it is the other forum and applying all the bad rep the other forum has had to your forum.

It would be better IMO to change the title of the sub-page "Zone" to "Forum" where the forum is located. Make the title of the site the same as the url, "DMOZ Resources". And change the tag to "DMOZ Resource by Webmasters". Actually the tag would also make a good title for the site. Or perhaps, the title could be "DMOZ Resource by Webmasters and Editors". That would give the appearance of a better working relationship between editors and webmasters. You are trying to bridge the gap a little, aren't you? Why would you want to take a chance that someone would confuse your site with the other inferior one? :D

Inferior one metas are the onces trying to take it down, wonder why :D , but if i remove the zone it will cripple the serp rankings etc. So will stick with zone part instead of forum, no one can sue me for have zone instead of forum in the folder name.

As per the titles i will work on them.

Great idea, Brizzie! I like using ODP in the place of DMOZ better. "ODP Resources" and "ODP Resource Forum" sounds a lot better. :D

How bout DMOZ Information and Resources for Webmaster as suggested by minstrel ? I think users search for term dmoz on google rather than odp most of the time so might become harder for them to locate the url.

But do let me know if odp would still be ur choice.

Gee Bunny, I never did a search for it. If I were to do a search, I think I would search for ODP myself. But mainly, I just like the way ODP sounds better than DMOZ. Do what you think best, cause I don't have a clue about the technicalities of using one over the other. However, I would think that by having dmoz in the url and using odp in the title of the site, that it would cover both search terms.

Minstrel's suggestion is very good. You will just have to decide which is best as far as ODP versus DMOZ. You Go, Bunny!

Well if you have dmoz in the URL and mention it in the text, and ODP in the title, you get the best of both worlds but I don't know what it would do to the SERPS.

Start a fund raising campaign to buy several domains...

each could have it's own landing page, pointing out the various good and bad points of DMOZ, as well as a link to YOUR forum ;)

I can eventually donate to help the ODP in some fashion, though currently I am broke...but I will, if you need it (when I can)

The only help right now would be getting some more participation on forums, cause i heard google loves content, and last month google search had over 180 hits, so the more the traffic the better sites become and more burning and tingling feeling other site gets :D:D

I applaud your intention to create an alternative to RZ paidhosting though it has been tried before by those unhappy with the RZ approach. I think maybe your problem is that there are alternatives that fill the same niche, have been active for a long while, and ODP management appear to have squashed senior editor participation, so what does it really add that is different to here for example. I am not saying you should give up, but you need to find an edge, some unique selling point that I don't personally see right now. From some of your posts it seems marketing the site, traffic, and Google ranking is high up in your mind - that is a real turn-off for many of the editors who might be able to help objectively.

Brizzie isnt it all about marketing ? Hey look RZ posted their link right on the submissions guideline on Dmoz itself, isnt that shameless advertising ?

Its always been about marketing, people can sell old dirty socks worth 0$ for more than 100$ by proper marketing.

Traffic drives any forums brizzie, you think any dmoz editor would even care to come to DP if dp's traffic was 100 unique hits a day ? Why do they come here and not on my forums ? Simple " Traffic is more at DP than at http://www.dmoz-resources.com/zone/ .

If traffic is a turn off for editors i do not know what exactly turns editors on ? Would hot chick services for editors do ? Would that turn them on ? If not what exactly would turn and Editor On ? I see the ex-editors not trying to help now anymore cause they feel dmoz should go to hell and why bother with helping others when dmoz kicked me out ? Editors not taking part cause they are too chicken to do the "Volunteer" part as they fear evil metas will remove them for helping users, even though its their life and their time, but metas got some pain in the ass about the forums i run. Its like i am back to square one? Which editor will take part ? Its just seems at this stage totally impossible.

Annie stopped posting or even visiting the forums after she was removed to help anyone anymore. She was active as long as she was editor, but after her removal she is pissed at those evil metas. She doesnt feel anymore helping and taking part. Which i understand completely, but hey those editors removed me from my editor post for one reason only " Cause i run those forums" which i find totally pathetic but still i kept running forums helping others in whatever way i could. I added over 15-20 sites in less than 2 days. So, you cannot say i did not contribute and those links still exists at Dmoz , so you cannot say they were probably bad links.

So you tell me brizzie, which editor will take part? Most are like "Fuck dmoz at this point". No one gives shit about some forum trying to help other users. Evil metas have brought out this message out loud and clear "Editors are our Bitches, you go against us we will fuck you good". And what else do we expect from power hunger, low life's ?

Looking forward to your suggestions brizzie. And by the way i do not see on the forums either, so i guess u are not turned on enough to help out.

And what edge do you want ? Want me to start paying editors for every status check they do or help out, for their support?

And please do explain why they keep trying to remove the link of the forum and site from wiki and about us all the time ?

    Regards.

I would like to make a couple of things clear here.

First and most important, Anne is not pissed at anyone. She stop posting EVERYWHERE because she's been sick. REAL sick.

Second, when Anne feels like helping again, she will. If any of you know Anne, you know she'll be back and contributing to the forums.

Bunny, get over your guilt trip, take a couple of chill pills and relax.
