I think it would be a good idea, it would give many confidence i believe in knowing that a sites owner/s have been checked, at least to the extent of verifying certain details.

I see a big lack of it on directories to be honest and after all, many are offering a service and expecting revenue with little to nothing that tells the person this directory is ok.

Much talk here recently about scammers running directories so maybe this is a step forward to make your directories yet more professional and to be taken even more seriously.

dont think it has anything to do with directories or link building, a domain certified domain anyone can get. Plust if it tracks visitors all it will do is slow down the loading of the site.

from everything I read it doesn't track anything it just show that your site is legitimate

    here is what it states
    Why Certified Domains?
Internet scams make it difficult to determine the good guys from the bad guys. Thanks to pharming, phishing, and other scams, Web surfers grow more wary by the day.

Reassure Web site visitors that you are one of the good guys by putting a Certified Domain validation seal on your site. The validation seal on your Web site and Whois display tells vistors that you are the legal originator of your domain name. Visitors can confidently visit your Web site knowing that your site is legitimate and backed by a Certified Domain.

One day approval - The validation process is simple and can generally be completed in 10 minutes, with the Certified Domain seal issued to your site within one business day.

    Certified Domain Process
To acquire Certified Domain accreditation, domain originators undergo a credentials check that confirms the contact information provided with their registration. Once the credentials have been authenticated, electronically issues a non-transferable Certified Domain seal that you can load to your Web site and WhoIs display.

Your domain retains this accreditation until it expires or becomes invalidated by a change in your domain contact information and needs to undergo re-accreditation.

So how many surfers do you know that may have an inclination of what it is? Personally, I'd consider it about as useful as a counter showing how many visitors you've had.
