not judging how good he is in coding, but if he were to be that good, your site would've been fluid width rather than fixed width :)

it may seems like fluid width to people who are in bigger resolution but once the resolution cuts down ... the horizontal scroll bar comes on

    Hello...

Agreed that coders are here and probably some of the best..

My 3 pics would be (and in No special order :))

    1. Anon
    2. Silkysmooth
    3. Darge

I work with 2 out of the 3 regularly and have purchased darges mods and
feel he and others listed are very well educated and can do anything
needed not only phpld but other scripts... ;)

Well SMUB I agree with u about the scroll bar comming in .. but if the psd design that i got is made in 1024 resolution and the header doesnt consist of repeating units how am I going to adjust to the 800 resolution without cutting the header image ...
instead of abruptly cutting the header image i prefer to keep the scroll bar at 800 resolution ...
Most of the templates(with non repeating headers) that I have seen use the same method to adjust to lower resolutions ...

If u or other coders have better ideas about how to deal with this issue please share them here so that everyone can benefit ... :D

Nevertheless if I get a proper repeating design in header then coding for fluid width is not my problem at all ...

I cannot recommend Riks highly enough. He is the best guy to do your design and coding for phpLD. I have never gone to anyone else since I engaged him.

Just a tip, try putting background with repeat in header and place the header in the center, so even if width is set to 100% the background will match with header and it should work for you . Try www.h-log.com for example. It has fluid width for all resolutions greater than 1024 ofcourse. Cause i checked my site at on my brothers 22 inch lcd and it looked awful with fixed 1024 width hence had to resort to fixing coding and make it fluid. Fluid websites do better at times than fixed width websites.
But yaa its all depended on psd that you get, i seen some really awful psds and worked with them, but i keep them at psd width cause it takes more time and effort which means more money that no one wants to pay.

    Cheers

Well what u said is correct and I have used this technique wherever I could but then the problem that these ppl are talking about is to adjusting to 800x600 resolution... In that resolution if I am to get rid of the scroll bar then It becomes imperative that some part of the header image gets cut up as the psd is generally made for 1024 resolution...
Now in repeating units headers this is easy and they can easily adjust all resolutions but when the header is an image then it becomes difficult isnt it ... Unless some un-aesthetic coders who just abruptly cut up the header just cause they dont want scroll bar in 800 resolution...
It just doesnt seem right for me ...

i can see your concerns and that was the thing i thought also about the images being to big.

My best trick is to make your psds in 800 x 600 so you can make it fluid width.

By the way williamjack (all sites have fluid height)

yes smub i agree with u that it is the best solution to make the psd's in 800x600 but then I am just a coder ... I have to code whatever I get in psd format ...
So even though I try my best ... sometimes i am just to helpless...

Still its good to get suggestions from fellow coders ... I guess now I can rant at my designer anytime I get a difficult psd... hehe
