Probably, Probably. Currently Google is certainly counting directory submissions from all types of directories (whilst it may water down the 'stength' of some links) If they suddenly stopped counting 90% of directory links, you'd know about it as the serps would change dramatically for some sites.
Even IDK.IN does not belong to me, but having its Avatar doesnt mean i own it...though my one is not a paid deal
However, some SEOs and webmasters engage in the practice of buying and selling links, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. Buying links in order to improve a site’s ranking is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results. Not all paid links violate our guidelines. Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results. Links purchased for advertising should be designated as such. This can be done in several ways, such as: * Adding a rel="nofollow" attribute to the <a> tag * Redirecting the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from search engines with a robots.txt file Google works hard to ensure that it fully discounts links intended to manipulate search engine results, such link exchanges and purchased links. a better question...if you read my above post from Google, are they going to penalize a site that they determine is buying links, I have always thought no way because that is a way to hurt your competitor, but you can certainly infer that they plan to, unless it is just a threat to help deter link buying/selling.
I say we all go report Yahoo! Dir then....if they ever placed nofollow tags, how many people would actually want to be listed there? I'm pretty sure for 300 a year you can find a better site to advertise at if you really want traffic only.
Quality directories will survive and will remain Google friendly... I know many SEO companies submitting to my directories. So they also think directory is the best way for link building.

I have visitors from Google for some less popular keywords So Google always counts directory back links ,but I do n't see any one directory getting above PR7 as google does n't want some quality directories to gain more PR as it would affect their search results!
Think all you want, but next time do some research on the spam and/or paid links, how stupid are people these days your submissions paid or not is not guaranteed its on a per review basis, if it gets approved your in, if not then obviously your not, if you read what matt cutts writes and am sure you read his article, make sure to read the whole post and comments it clarifies a lot.
well, google still count directory link as back link. one of my brand new site, i just submit to 200 directory 2 weeks ago, and i got 20 backlinks so yah Google Count it cheers
High quality directories are very useful in improving search engine rankings and pagerank, I have had first hand experience of this recently. I purchased a few directory submissions for an arcade site recently and it moved from page 10 to page 3 for a very competitive keyword, it also moved up the rankings for most of my other keywords too. I spent about $150 and it has already turned into a profit. They key is to be very selective and spend a little time finding quality directories. These are the directories I'm talking about, there are many more: www.trincas.org www.thebroadest.com www.2yi.net www.cbgred.com www.dirwizard.com www.linksjuice.com www.linkbook.org www.indexzilla.com
well i submitted to just free directories and after 2 months i am #1 for all the terms i tried for, well they were very uncompititive, but just telling you that those links are counted...
Depends on how often it crawls the directory page you are listed in, it could be 1 day or 1 month. I always check using the 'site:' search.

Yes, I completely agree. And Matt Cutts statements on his blog pretty well verified this almost exactly. He said that directories that have a good editorial/review policy were considered to be important (paraphrased).
