Google not counting directory backlinks?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by RobertD, Jun 28, 2007.

I am starting to think that Google is no longer counting the majority of directories in regards to backlinks, i.e. it is discounting them as spam and/or paid links.

    Your thoughts?

and that may be their goal, except for the directories that they consider "worthy"...it's just an observation, not sure if it's true, but after the next PR update I will know.

    I would have to disagree.

You submitted 'ironmagazine forums' to dump on the 25th

    look: #13
    http://www.google.com/search?q=ironmagazine+forums&hl=en&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-27,GGGL:en&start=10&sa=N

cached the same day(and already revisited and recached yesterday):
    http://72.14.209.104/search?sourcei...orydump.com/ironmagazine-forums-link-777.html

so you are in the index, and it's a link back, and I doubt google is discrediting anything :)

Google counts the links from directories. Almost all my directry backlinks are from directories and forums only. ;)

So do you think google is being 'picky' with whom they choose?

Now that would be interesting(to me)

Google would index your detail pages as the backlinks, here is an example.

I think this is pretty acurate observation.

Links from crap directories probably won't count for much
Links from decent directories are probably beneficial.

Btw i used to be a premium member of you're forums many moons ago. Glad to see they are still going strong.

I seriously doubt Google has the time nor will to start grading directories as worthy or not. If they do anything it would be universal.

they would not manually determine their worthiness, Googlebot would analyze the directory and if it is filled with what G views as "spam sites" they devalue the outgoing links from that directory as a whole, in thier eyes a worthy directory only allows quality sites to be listed, hence human editorial review of all site submissions. Also, if the directory contains a bunch of spammy outgoing sitewide links that could also hurt it's credibility...again I am just observing and speculating, I have no proof of this.

I am not sure, but its a fact as well Quality directory backlink counts in google whereas crappy ones fail to give a sold linkback to there customers, so arent quality directory selling links and they are paid as well? so how can we say Google is not counting link backs from directory... it certainly is and will cos not counting means end to a Huge industry, only traffic based directories are likely to survive...
