What is the connection between the PageRank and the SERP position ? and how much a higher PageRank influences the SERPs ( if it does... )

Can anybody explain please ? I think this topic will be useful for everybody...

PR is purely determined by the quality of incoming links.

SERP is determined by a lot of factors. Several critical ones are Content relevancy and backlinks (PR).

I know that the PR of relevant backlinks do count ... but would your site rank higher in SERPs if your(website) PR will be 7 instead of 5 ?

But I would disagree with Matt Cutts about his views on paid links as they are very difficult to deduct!

    There really isn't! :D

You should concentrate on SERPs and not the PR score. PR is nice to have, but it doesn't necessarily affect how well you rank for your targeted terms, depending on how competitive those terms are. If you optimize for the terms, your site will outperform a competitor with higher PR but no other optimization.

I guess the bigger is the PR, the more pages are indexed by Google, the mo chances to rank high ... or am I wrong ?

Really --????? Is there no relation???

Can you please tell me ---how do you optimize your keyword/anchor words?
To rank high --what do you need?

Can you just open a site ---put high quality unique Contents --and rank????
Don't you need lots of backlinks --to optimize your keywords/anchor words? And what does those huge amount of backlinks mean?

Those backlinks certainly mean --PR. Without backlinks you can do nothing.

And more recently --people like you --who have no understanding of what PR is are crying foul about dropping on SERPs.
    Do you know why?

Because --the current Google algo is bringing top-quality --authority sites on top of search results. And almost all authority sites have high PR ( PR5 or above).

that makes perfect sense, otherwise there would be no reason for Google to use the PR system.

I do not see a relationship between the two. I had a PR3 in less than three months and I did not even rate in the top 1000 in Google. I have a PR0 who hit #1 in Google in less than two weeks. Granted they are both different niches but I still do not see had the PR is related to SERP.
