I've recently set up a Shopping Directory for Australia and foolishly overlooked the fact that I've set it up with a US host and .com address. Its in its very early days so its not too much of a problem to change things now.....so I think thats what I'm going to do. If someone could recommend a good (and preferable cheap) web host I'd really appreciate it. Thanks guys Rach xxxx
Being on a US host shouldn't be detrimental to your site, but it may load slightly slower then if they were hosted in Aus (Aus is way more expensive), your best solution would be to get a .com.au domain and point it to your current host. I have a host if you would like some space. Let me know how much bandwidth and webspace you would like and maybe we can organise a deal.
Unfortunately I'm not sure about how they come up with those results for 'pages from Australia', it could possibly be based just on domain name so a .com.au would definately be the way to go. They may use GeoIP basing so if that is the case I'm not sure.
Jumba are the cheapest I have seen in Australia but personally I would stay away from them. To get listed in Australian searches .com.au is the safe way to go.
AussieHost.com is an excellent Australian Web Host (owned and operated by the infamous "Aussie Bob" who founded HTTPme)
Best host in Australia is netregistry.com.au They host all the big guns and not only Australian companies either. They have the fastest mainframes in Australia and the support is second to none. Col
We offer Australian hosting (Sydney datacentre) on dual xeon servers, with CPanel 11. www.chillitech.com.au Drop me a PM if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help out. Can also help you get some Australian links to your site.
Thanks everyone! Before I got any replies I decided to register with WebCity and use their WebSite Builder (I dont have the knowledge to do it myself yet but am ok with the Homestead builder that I use at the moment). Anyway their website builder is too advanced for me so I've decided to get my money back! I have registered my domains though so I'm happy about that - now what do I do with them though??? I cant build a site myself and I cant afford to pay someone to do it for me. I basically want to trans all the info from my .com to my .com.au domain - all the info is there! If I could rebuild it using the same website builder that I'm using now I'd be more than happy. So what do I do now??? Any suggestions? Thanks again Rach xxxx
Yes, I came in here to just go DO NOT USE WEBCITY. They overcharged my boyfriend hundreds of dollars, refused to refund for months until he threatened legal action and then refused to change his hosting plan to a cheaper one when his contract expired. We've had nothing but trouble with Webcity.
I have accounts with all of these companies (listed in order of quality). aussiehq.com.au webarama.com.au jumba.com.au Jumba are cheap, but they're cheap! Webarama and AussieHQ both offer more expensive hosting, but they're way more professional and reliable than Jumba. I think Jumba buys their hosting from AussieHQ.
Thank you, I have just PM'd a reply. I forgot to mention that should you want us to transfer your site from the old host to our Sydney servers we'd be happy to take care of that for you (at no further charge).
