Thing is, i've discover a great name for a directory, an I want to add it to my collection, but the only real drive behind this is a really great name What do you think guys? I mean , I would push hard on the links development and promotion, and it definitely hasn't been registered before, so tis not a dropped domain,
I've had some luck with great generic names in the past, an discovering that this one was free sent a thrill down my spine, There is some thing about great generics
register it if it makes you all tingly - it may not be there long enough for you to think about it too much.
I have thought of a great one too, haven't registered yet so thanks for posting this question. I wonder if great minds think alike (hint for: what is the name?!?!).
It would be fun to know who has the most popular directory name. For one thing a like the ones that easy to remember. I might start a new thread!
Nope. A great name does nothing for me. Traffic and great backlinks from trusted websites will get me to submit a site. /*tom*/
I would definitely take the directory domain name into consideration. In general, a good or rare domain name costs money to buy. And, if someone spent the time and money into purchasing that domain name, it kind of gives me the sense that the person is somewhat serious about business. Also, good domains tend to have longevity on the internet. I'm not saying you need a good domain to be successful, but it helps. Look at all the strong directories out there right now: Romow, AliveDirectory, AvivaDirectory, Gii, DirectoryDump, JoeAnt, BOTW, and the list goes on. All the names are catchy and brandable.
I think the domain plays its role in every website. No offence to anyone but I've seen some directory domains... bleah ... I feel sorry for the content I''ve also noticed many directory owners choosing a two words domain, sort of directorysomething , where something has nothing to do with the directory...well guys rush, rush ... directorygrandma and directorygrandpa still available
Not at all. I don't think Google gives more weightage to a link from a nice domain name. (Or does it?) Well, if that's the case and you are really looking forward to spend time working on it, then why not ??? I good name will surely help to remember the site. But if you think that just a name will bring any submission, you are wrong.
The name would not personally persuade me any more, i would take other things into account. I have about 25 new domain name ideas written on paper, they are all available, i think many of them sound good and some make me all tingly but i know everybody else probably wont give a hoot about them though. They will be more concerned with other things if submitting to any of them in the future.
a great name is actually a good start. Worst thing is to start a site with this nagging feeling that your name is not so good. However, name alone like many others have said, is far from enough. But it is a good start
I too get excited when I think I've thought of a good, original and relevant domain name, and it turns out it's free. But you have to check your enthusiasm, because a name itself isn't a good enough reason to start a whole new directory. Go ahead and register the name, though, it's cheap enough and it will keep your options open. And it always surprises me what people have already thought of when I'm looking for a domain name that's a little bit different.
if the name has a good theme/template to match, it helps build up "quality" in your mind. zorg is an ace name
I do not really care about the name, as long as the directory is of quality and has the traffic that I am looking for!
