The US occupation of Iraq is untenable. The American people have given their verdict in the Congressional elections. President Bush should heed the voice of the majority and begin pulling out of Iraq. Recent polls by Gallup and Newsweek indicate very low approval ratings for President Bush and also Congress because of Iraq. The Iraqis who have suffered grievously under US occupation also want the US to withdraw. They can sort out their own problems.
yes we should withdraw from iraq, but how? at the moment the country is on the point of civil war, with shia muslims in the south fighting sunni muslims, and the kurds trying to secure their own region against insurgent attacks and possible incursions by turkey. the place is a mess, with little or no security forces of its own, still relying heavily upon coalition forces to back them up. also, most kurds still request the presence of our forces. so what to do? withdraw and witness a bloodbath out of which almost certainly a new but not neccessarily improved iraq will emerge, probably joining ranks with its close neighbour iran - a nation which has claimed the south of iraq as its own anyway - to become an islamic republic ruled by ruthless mullahs imposing their own take on sharia law on a nation to battle weary to protest. you can see now why the west would not want this to happen. for this would only strengthen iran and create a hostile 'super-power' with the potential to cause far more harm than any other.
thanks sherlock, guess you got that name for making such astute deductions. sorry, no sarcasm meant, but of course oil is dictating to a larger extent the west's interest in that part of the world. however, as i pointed out iraq is a whole can of worms.
I guess my biggest question that all of the "get out of Iraq NOW" crowd has still not been able to sufficiently answer for me is this: We leave. What's happens next? Just curious T
triple7allstar, i really hope that all people learn a lesson from this and not let it happen again. We let it happen once before in vietnam, now in iraq. How many more times will it happen again before we get the picture. No wmd's were ever found. We have a long history of butting into other countries affairs.
There is no occupation. We are there at the request of the Iraq government to assist in getting rid of people I suspect you support. triple7allstar makes a good point, for which silence seems to be the only response. If the US leaves Iraq, against the Iraqi government's wishes, then what? Terrorists takes over. Who among those that wish a terrorist victory would want to live under their rule? Easy to make those demands behind a keyboard in the comfort of free societies. It's another thing to live under the rule of those you wish to take over.
There weren't any 'terrorists' in Iraq to start off with. They were just normal people who became so-called 'terrorists' because they dont want, and never did want, the US in their country.
Yet another myth. zarqawi was in Iraq prior to the invasion and there were terrorist training camps there. Next?
That is pure speculation (probably by Fox news or one of your other 'trustworthy' sources). There were never terrorist training camps there......No doubt the US government displayed regular Iraqi army camps as terrorist camps...
These are multi-national corporations. Money is money, they shift it around a bit it still goes to the same place.
