What hosting account [Again!]

    Ok,

I purchased a hosting account with fxdomains.com to host multiple domains, I am only filling in 3 domains and combined get about 1,000 hits a day.

One site kept going down, resulted in losing visitors. A DNS report showed that there are only two name servers and that they conflict so cause failure.

I'm learning as I go along here so I want a hosting account that can allow multiple domains without these DNS failures so I can just run a smooth site.

    What are your recommendations?

    • No PMs for private hosting please - Only want direct with companies
    • No Virtual/Dedi recommendations

    *Edit*

This is what the errors are:

WARNING: Although you have at least 2 NS records, they may both point to the same server (one of our two tests shows them being the same, the other does not), which would result in a single point of failure. You are required to have at least 2 nameservers per RFC 1035 section 2.2.

WARNING: When I looked up your MX record, your DNS server returned a CNAME. This is an unusual situation, and I can't handle it -- the following MX tests may not work properly

WARNING: One or more of your MX records points to a CNAME. CNAMEs are prohibited in MX records, according to RFC974, RFC1034 3.6.2, RFC1912 2.4, and RFC2181 10.3

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS record.

Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct 2004).

I am asking them now, been with 2 hosts so far and each one only AFTER you buy from them they say to you there is a limit on connections in general.

I need a host that can take a lot of visitors, not just 5 a day.

The hosts were fxdomains and streamline.

Hostgator only allow 20 connections :/

You can give Hawk Host a try. All our shared accounts offer unlimited parked / addon domains. We offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee backed by a service level agreement.

Now the 20 connections issue I assume this is MySQL. Well I've seen sites running on 25 connection limits have 200 active users on their forum. If you're having trouble with 20 connections with a low amount of visitors I'd make sure you're not using persistent connections.

Well I'm not sure what script you're using. I assume it's mysql and php so the functions they'd be calling would be mysql_pconnect instead of mysql_connect. I imagine you're using some open source or commercial piece of software so it's probably a configuration option.

    Hi VentureOnline,

eMonsterhost, Inc. is a reputable provider in WI and we've been in business for almost 4 years now offering web hosting and domain registration.

I could easily offer you a shared plan for no more than $9.95/mo that would allow you to host up to 5 domains and even 20 add-on domains, plus you would NOT be limited on the MySQL connections. I'd be happy to work with you on a custom solutions, please do let us know via PM or at:

    Thanks!
