Setting Future Post Schedule with Wordpress

Discussion in 'WordPress' started by Burta, Jun 25, 2007.

I have been hearing a lot about people writing posts well in advance and then setting Wordpress up so that it posts the post at a specific time and date in the future, but for the life of me I can't work out how to do it - I have looked everywhere.

Can someone please explain exactly how, or point in the direction of a good guide or tutorial somewhere. Thanks.

on the right, check the box "edit time stamp"
then input your desired publish date
then set the "post status" as published
    then save it

I was pretty confused about it my first try as well :)

Just a tip: If you use the built-in function in wordpress to autoping then you may want to turn this off when you do this and ping manually later (using a site like pingomatic). The reason is because wordpress pings as soon as you hit publish (and if the post isn't actually up yet then the sites that visit your blog will get 404 errors), it is a bug that Courtney Tuttle found out and wrote about on his blog (courtneytuttle.com).

I had heard this and asked about this issue before, checked out the site you mentioned and found out more information.

According to an active poster on the Wordpress support boards,

"With 2.1, the post pings at the time given for it publishing and showing up on the webpage.

So if you do a future post, it won't ping until it actually posts."

    Hope this helps,

    hey Burta,

Pinging is a method of announcing to ping servers/search engines/content aggregators that new content is available on your site by sending out a command to the servers.

This in turn may get your more traffic by getting you indexed/listed on sites like Technorati/Google Blog Search/etc

But they still find your content eventually right?

Do you mean by pinging manually or by not pinging at all?

While the major search engines will probably find you if you are linked to by someone else, the smaller blog-specific sites may not.
