Hi All, I have a yellowpages type directory with the following issue: Companies can be found in multiple categories. The same listing is displayed for each category but the url is different because of the category. So in essence i have multiple urls with the same content. Will Google greek me? eg url/city/category/companylisting url/category/companylisting same content on both. logic says i'm dead meat ...just hoping i dont have to tackle the code.
Google now says they don't penalize for that type of duplication, they just pick one to index. You could block one from being indexed with robots.txt or noindex tags.
Where did you read this? "Google now says they don't penalize for that type of duplication, they just pick one to index."
You mean everyone does'nt read the Google Webmaster Blog? Here is the specific post: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/06/duplicate-content-summit-at-smx.html "Duplicate content doesn't cause your site to be penalized. If duplicate pages are detected, one version will be returned in the search results to ensure variety for searchers."
Google doesnt penalize for duplicate content on same domain, but it puts those pages in supplemental results for sure.
