I saw my websites listed in many free non recriprocal directories but why I can't find any of those links when I checked them via yahoo? And I also checked my websites backlinks from google.com/webmasters, none from those directories, why is that?

Not sure about Yahoo, but Google tries to block out directories from getting scanned as backlinks - especially free ones

Google not tries to block out directories from getting scanned as backlinks - especially free ones. It tries to rate down value of vote of those directories which give add website instantly.

I have checked in google.com/webmasters but I can't see any of my links in these directories. Why is this happening? If google really didn't count them as backlinks, why we should submit our sites to directories? waste of time..

I think directories still pass along some PR.

Try to find some good old directories. Directory submission is still a valid way to get backlinks.

I have submitted to all free directories more than PR 5. But I can't see any backlinks from them.

Wokaka, it's matter of time. May be those pages are not yet indexed in google or the bot hasn't visited that page since you have updated, or google has the info, but hasn't updated it to the world outside. The third option is quite common.

i remembered there's a report tool which allowed you to report if you had actually bought the link instead of a free exchange...

Google doesnt like directories as links even if they are relevant with a high PR. Yahoo will take just about anything.

From experience free directories are a waste of time, I submitted my directory, (Nemesis4ver Web Directory), to thousands of directories and none of the directory listing pages were indexed. Sometimes even paid directories are a waste of time.

then why everyone suggested us to submit our site to those directories? I have seen too many people taught us to do that, look into the sticky thread.
