A minimum wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly wage that employers may legally pay to employees or workers.

    Straight outta Wikipedia.

No, not every job pays minimum wage. Usually only the part-time ones that you get during high school. :p

I think it's under $3 in Kansas, and some states don't even have one. When does the state minimum wage apply and when the federal one?

I am pretty sure that both apply (so basically which ever one is higher is the minimum wage) and I doubt it is $3 in Kansas, maybe some jobs get paid that much because some jobs pay under minimum wage counting tips into pay

The UK minimum wage is as follows..

What are the current rates of the national minimum wage?
There are three levels of minimum wage, and the rates from 1st October 2006 are:

£5.35 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older
A development rate of £4.45 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive
£3.30 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age.

    £5.35 - $10.69
    £4.45 - $8.89
    £3.30 - $6.59

Minimum wage is like $6 here in Australia... it varies from job to job depending on your qualifications...

Not that anyone pays $6. It would be told to get shoved and they'd find themselves running a business by themselves!

Even the people with no qualifications or anything earn around $10 an hour.

Minimum wage in China is probably something like $1/hour.

I haven't had a proper job yet (just 16) but I do work for my parents and people online, pretty good wages ;)

the federal minimum wage trumps the state minimum wage
and federal min wage is 5.15 to the best of my knowledge...i think states can have their own higher min wage, but not lower

The Federal minimum over rules the state minimum WHEN certain conditions are met. I have not dealt with the particulars for years . It was based annual sales volume, number of emplyees and I think there was some mention of interstate commerce.

As a general rule the smaller mom and pop businesses are excluded from the Federal minimum.
