I am a Pentecostal Christian and wondered what the wealth of religions here on digital point are. Feel free to post about all you sifferent denominations and we'll see how mnay we get in the thread.
Christian. And yes, we Mormons *are* Christian. Atheism is a religion, technically, if you consider atheism is "a universal faith that there is no God or supernatural being" - it is a faith, it is universal among plenty, thus could be a religion. Ah well, doesn't matter anyway. We can drop that issue. (Back on topic: Yeah, I'm Christian.)
I'm personally is an agnostic, I'm informing what many atheists I know and met told me. Atheists are similar to Agnostics in that we want proof, if there is no proof then there is no reason to believe in a religion or its god. Which seem to me is the opposite of faith (believing without seeing), something that only modern religions use.
I consider myself agnostic, which is more a way of thinking then a religion. I used to get asked what the difference is all the time, and this is how I would explain athiest vs agnostic... athiest = belief in no God. agnostic = belief that a person's belief in God doesn't matter. Because knowing if God exists or not is impossible, it's not worth wasting the time to contemplate... That's just the way I look at the two, anyone have different views?
I am a christian, slightly different then the traditional, i belong to a house church, we believe the bible as complete truth and strive to be as biblically correct as possible.
I'm an agnostic - I refuse to believe that organized religion is exactly what "God" or whoever had in mind for mankind. If a deity is so perfect and righteous, why would they ever, ever embrace this hierarchical power-struggle that we call organized religion? All that stuff sure seems like a great scheme by some incredibly talented writers to get the masses in line and make them cooperate. However, while I don't believe in a "supreme being" or organized religion, I have to agree that the absolute basic tenet of most religions is good - treating your neighbor like you would like to be treated, practicing love and charity and kindness, all that stuff is perfect. It's jihadism, assassination fatwahs, "get your dead parents out of purgatory for 10 bucks," and the labeling of people as heretics stuff that makes me lose all faith in organized religion. However, I believe it is naive to take a side for certain - to me, an atheist is just as bad as a believer. I value empirical knowledge to an incredible extent, and I will not take a side unless I know for sure.
Well said... Personally I believe in the psychogenic origin theory of religion... Basically, a child looks to his parents for guidance and love, then the parents die... The child desires that "parental" figure, especially to get over the death of parents (or family, friends)... And so "God"/"Allah"/"Vishnu" is born... I feel the same way, but yet still have this feeling that there is "something" out there... You know?
The psychogenic origin theory of religion certainly does make sense. The first thing that comes to my mind is "God is the universal imaginary friend." That's pretty awesome if you ask me, hahaha. As for feeling like there's something out there... Yeah.... all evidence points out that the big-bang theory is probably true, and I tend to think it is - but that just begs the question, where did the huge mass of stuff that the "big bang" blew up come from? Nobody will ever know probably, and I until we can answer that question, I'm content with being agnostic. Something I've always had a problem answering is "why is there a world?" I don't know, and when people tell me that God created it, I just want to ask "why is there a God?"
Atheist here. When I was a child me and my 2 brothers and my 2 sisters were forced into going to Sunday school (Church of England cobblers). That was a load of shit forcing someone into doing something that they do not believe in in my opinion. I still wonder to this day if my parents did it so they could have sex without any distractions or if it was just to get 2 hours of peace and quiet once a week from us kids! I guess I'll never know as it was around 18 years ago lol!
