Is this normal?

We have 5 people in my school in year 11 who are pregnant. I don't understand, why can't they go and get free condoms? I know 2 places in town which...(3 actually)... give you free condoms.

I have taken steps to prevent this happening to me.

I carry a condom with me everywhere i go

    Why?

Because i don't want kids yet, maybe in 10 years time, but not now.

Why do people fail to use contraception when they are having sex?

Normally not one to post on topics where it can start a war :) but I think it comes down to parenting. or should I say the lack of which causes kids to not really think of what having unprotected sex can do. It seems these days parents are afraid to talk to their kids bluntly and tell them the facts of life. Corny sounding I know, but it is the truth. I see it all the time now. Plus you have more and more kids who did not get taught repect when they were young and so anything the parents day they will do the reverse.

It is not just that, i am worried about STI's and STD's.

Respect from people my age is terrible. My respect is wearing thin because people older than me don't respect me. If you don't respect us, then do you expect us to respect you back? NO.

Either they are stupid, their parents refuse to talk about sex (although these days, kids can find out about sex very easily) or they just don't care.

Having sex with a condom is :(, but it's better than having a kid.
I know what you're talking about. Where I come from, this things happen, too.

This is the problem though, HOW they find out about it. When they see it in the movies, TV or games these days, it does not always show the impacts that it can have. I avoid saying negative impacts because I have a daughter and one on the way I would never say they were negative. But kids having kids at a young age they don't know what to do, have not had enough time in the real world to really fully understand what that few minutes of "fun" can do.

As far as respect, I am 32 and give most people I meet respect when I meet them and let them choose how they are going to handle it. I know some that go the route that you have to earn it to get it. Each person has their own way of dealing with that. But as far as kids, I'm sorry, but the child needs to respect their parents right off that bat and none of this shit about "you don't repsect me". Too many kids feel they have earned it but that their parents have not. Sorry, but that is the wrong damn answer.

This is what i always thought until half a year ago when i got a bit drunk and had unprotected sex. Your manhood just takes over your brain. I was lucky though. The next morning i made sure she had a morning after pill and both of us got checked out at the clinic. I guess its just ignorance when younger and stupidity when older.

I agree that kids need to learn about sex from their parents first. But if a child's parents refuse to talk about sex, how else are they going to learn anything about it? Kids WILL hear things, and they might hear false information but not realize it's false because their parents won't talk to them about it.

It's a sad state of affairs.

This is true, but again, back to what I said before. I blame alot on the parents for not wanting to talk about sex because they don't know how or because of their beliefs. Kids that want to know about sex should NOT turn to moves and or TV to learn. They should be willing to ask someone else, either counselors at school or something. I know in today's world they turn to the internet. If they are going to do that, atleast don't use "myspace" as a reference or a wiki.

Agreed. I'm not arguing your point at all. TV and movies are not a reliable source of information when it comes to sex. But what happens if a child grows up in a household where they are taught that sex is bad or wrong? How will they muster up the courage to speak with a guidance counselor?

I don't think there are any answers to this. There need to be better, more widely available resources for kids who have questions about these kinds of things. A place they can go for factual information about sex if their parents won't talk about it and they keep hearing false information on TV.

Year 11 is 15 to 16 year olds, in england thats for-- DevilHellz .i finished higschool not so long ago now and back then 2 be onest i where really responsible, but accidents do happen, and there is allways the girls that will say im on the pill, and at the end of the day i know you shouldent trust them but this things can happen, i rememer once when i had an accident i didnt sleep that night, but next morning i did what i had to, simply took my gf to the chemist and we got the morning after pill.
But i guess thats down to every individual some people seem to think, ohh if i ignoreit its liike it didnt happen, but again that is mainly dirty chavs the scum of the british nation, i bet 4 out of them 5 girls are lil chavs, who smoke and go to the park to drink white lightning sider while they listen to their baghead music MC crap and all that. and same for the boys who got them pregnant-- and this gets me thinking, any one that lives in england will know exacly what im talking about

CHAVS scum of the earth What are chavs? have you asked yourself? a chav is a person who fits nowhere in society someone lazy who just cant be bothered, someone who has no thoughts towards future, expects everything to happen to them without doing nothing, resoult, the finish highschool and the stop studing, then they start selling cannabis thinking they are bigtime dealrs, robbing anithing they can getting drunk in public parks, driving arround in cars that cost £50 $100 with no driving license insurrance tax mot and so on - claiming benefits getting a free house and £50 - $100 a week spending money just for claiming themselfs jobless - intimidating good honest people who work for a living and pay for the taxes that latter on ends up in their pokets thru the money they claim of benefits- thats how it goes for the boy chavs girls even have bebies so that they get a house paid for by the goverment and a pay for each single chial, and in a way it is growth of the comunity, but if you stop to think about it, the offspring is going to be the same or even worst only a few cme out decent, meaning that at the rate that it is going things arenot going to get better.

Well got it off my chest ive had this though in my head for a little while now.
For you people in the usa you might be able to relate/compare this to the people who live in them trailer parks, no future no aspirations.

That isn't to unusual over where i am there are 3 people pregnant in year 11 and 8 in year 12, 2 left the school to be full time mothers. This is mainly because their unaware of the consequences, or the may be drunk, or maybe just peer pressure.

Damn, you have so many benefits in the UK for these types of people ?
It's no wonder the girls get pregnant, it's an easy way out for them, not to work and get a house and money.

yes exacly - there are new rules coming into place, something like you have to start work as soon as your kids are in primary school rather than once they reach the age of 16. about time really.

Just comes to show you what you can really do using the internet. You can play online games, or you can make millions of dollars a year.

the trouble is getting unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sex isn't the half of it, i mean what about HIV, and all other SDTs. how can anyone be so selfishly careless. everybody knows about condoms, and as for getting drunk then having unprotected sex, that is a lame excuse, for one thing if a guy is so out of it that he forgets to wear a condom he is probably incapable of using it as well, no, most guys still know what they are doing when they are drunk but are too damn selfish to use protection, and i am not taking the woman's side here either, for she is just as bad. HIV KILLS AND CAN BE PASSED ON!!!!!

You are correct, but there are around 0.1% of the population that have HIV. Chlamydia is the main problem

I feel scared of this, i don't want a kid unless me and my girlfriend settle, or plan to settle.

Should age be a problem if you have or want a kid? Unplanned pregnancy's are the problem, if teenagers planned, it would be better.
