Hello, I am a newish webmaster and I have some questions. Are drupal blogs or wordpress blogs better? I see wp blogs all the time, but I also see drupal ones occasionally. What are the pros/cons? Many thanks!
wordpress is a blog platform that is good for blogging. drupal is a framework that includes a blogging engine. The addons to Drupal are endless. This is the plus and the minus of the script. it will take a little research to get your first drupal site running because of the need to figure out the modules that need to be added to make it SEO friendly, learn about blocks, and get used to the setup. I am doing my new site updatedubai.com using drupal and feel very good about it.
As previously said, wordpress hands down for blogging, but if you need a portal system, drupal would be best...
Are there any other blogs out there worth considering, what about Joomla? I want something that would possibly allow me to set up pages where users can upload video blogs, add forum, articles and so on..
i would recommend Drupal over joomla. But if you want pure blogging Wordpress is the clear favourite!
I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your site. I've been using wordpress for 2-3 months and have had amazing results as far as SEO is concerned. I've yet to use Drupal so I can't really compare the two.
since it for blogging, i recommended wordpress compared to drupal. WP is much easy to manage and most suitable for blog. Drupal is very much better for portal, i take 2 weeks to understand on WP compare to 2 months for drupal. Maybe Im too stupid to handle drupal compare to others. Try both of drupal and WP by yourself, so you can learn how to manage both.
joomla it pretty good cms system too, but in my experience, templating, adding modules and custom codes is pretty much easier in drupal. Add to that the markup with drupal can be easily Validated, CSS simply customizable, and through and through a better e-commerce system compared to joomla. If you barebones Drupal, it can be used as a blog as well... Go to opensourcecms.com to test trial installations of both and other CMS.
Joomla does not ping. that really turned me off. The attitude of the developers is clearly stated in the support forums that they do not believe pining is needed and will not code it into the script any time soon. Now for a web 2.0 software developer to say they don't think sites need to ping pages right away disqualifies his work from being considered a blogging platform. Yes they have a work around with a hack in a core module to get a ping button, but I dont feel right starting from that point, what next then?
im using wordpress on all of my websites. why? because wordpress is efficient and have many plugins/themes, etc. -cypher.
If you have CSS and PHP capabilities, you might want to look at ExpressionEngine. I am impressed with the product's architecture and am continuing my own investigation. Drupal and Joomla make me nervous. Wordpress is a nice blogging engine, but there isn't much flexibility in the presentation layer. Rich
Adrian88!!! It's been well over a year. Have you tried things out? I am sticking with Joomla but I do want to try out drupal one of these days :?)
