.02/word seems too MUCH to you? You know absolutely nothing about the professional writing world. Or rather, you don't care - which seems far more likely.
It takes you 1000 ad impressions to earn 2 cents? You should be doing $10-$75 with that. As to the 2 cent's being too much. For some people it is. I can take a trip to a certain part of town and the people in front of this one building are selling their food stamps for pennies on the dollars. I'm willing to bet that .00001 cents per word is too rich for their blood. But, that's what I love about the free marketplace. If 2 cents is too much, you can shop around for lower.
A thread full of the next internet successes I see. I am amazed at the rates that people actually expect someone to do work for, and what people are willing to do for less than minimum wage. Incredible! Why even get into this business if you have no idea what the going rate is? Waiters at Denny's are making more than the price that people are dong and selling on this forum. Meanwhile the rest of the world is charging the going rate. I thought this thread was a joke, I had no idea it was a serious thread.
. . "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" Bonus points if you can sing the jingle.. Anybody remember those commercials? That's what came to mind, immediately. But to answer, frankly, for ten bucks? Well I wouldn't do much for just $10, but would if it was per 2.0 minutes or so. Or maybe out source to somebody else for pennies on the dollar who doesn't understand how to market what they do, and thus have pigeon-holed themselves into working a lot and being paid a little. Which is dumb, but happens all the time - here on DP included. Rob
Somewhere in the 10 - 30 word range, depending on rights ordered, or a bit less than 5 minutes of consulting.
I'll do lower case for $8, and email it for $4. If it take me longer than the time to spend $10 at the 7-11, then you will be billed accordingly. I do know an area of town where you can get a little more for $10, (maybe not, I think even they would want at least $20)
I do pretty well. The rates are pretty typical of the professional writer pool outside of the traditional "webmaster market." I don't write full-time though, and this year most of my writing has been on my own sites and projects (e-books, etc.), which are doing well enough to keep me interested. Most of my income comes from my PR and marketing consulting.
Well, don't get me wrong and sorry for my joke, but this post you just wrote for free is worth about 50$.
This post is worked into my marketing time; not my billable time. As a consultant or freelancer of any kind you have to be able to differentiate the two. Forum marketing leads to a huge part of the business I get for my consulting projects, not to mention that it's been an excellent personal branding tool... something essential, especially because of the line of work I'm in.
Go out and buy two lottery tickets $5 each. You could win million, if you do, then buy DP and you have all the guys writing quality content for you free of charge. Even those who charge $1 for one word
