Community Domain Name

Our community has started a website. The idea of the website is to serve 2 purposes. One is to inform people of our people and our community. Second is to give community members an area to communicate and utilize features (e.g. calendar, genealogy) to update on themselves on events and share family trees.

    Our website is: http://www.nuxalknation.org

During the development, one of our community members who doesn't live in the village bought up the domain http://www.nuxalknation.com and http://www.nuxalknation.net... knowing very well that we wanted to use them... I realize this was slow reaction on our part but can anything still be done to get these domains?

    Stutswiniitscw! Thank You!

Unless you have a trademark or something on them, probably not.

There is a big chance he will try to sell them to you for X10 the price or something like that. When people do that to me I say no and then they will have a high offer still I say no again and then they want reg fee for them it happened to me a couple times.

He has offered them to us for a very high price. But at present, we are not in the position to purchase them at the set rate.

I read in some postings here that I could let google know and also his hosting company. Would this make a difference in my situation?

He did nothing but buy a domain that was not in use. It was a bit sleazy but nothing illegal. Just wait him out or buy a different domain. You could buy the .org which might fit your site well.

We've already done this and I guess we'll have to reserve the name. Does anyone have any positive experiences with reserving domain names that are already bought by someone?

Nothing you can do besides buy the domains or pass on em. It sucks to run into people like that, I have someone doing the same thing to me (probably getting good traffic on mistakingly using .com instead of .net too).
