    Hi pals
I have never seen Indian presidential elections being so much competitive.
Unfortunately the president is not elected directly by citizens. If we were given a choice, who would you have voted for?
My vote goes to Dr.Kalam :)

Presidents post is waste of resources as he don't have any power to do anything.

There was a very meaningful dialogue in "Gangajaal":

"Samaj ko police waisi hi milti hai , jaisa samaj khud hota hai"

(The society gets police force, just like itself.)

I guess it holds true for politicians too.

Indian politicians are a reflection of Indian society itself.

One of the worst Presidential Elections I've heard as of now ....

    - In order to appease the left, the UPA strikes out a good number of candidates and finally comes up with Pratibha Patil. Once done, they sing the glory by putting down the "First woman President in 60 years of independence" card on the table!!!!

    - NDA as always do what they're best at -- Nothing, Nil, Nada! They go ahead and convince us that Mr. Shekhawat is an independent candiate and that he would get their support!

    - The third front quickly notices that it's role is completely negligent, so they jump up and convince Dr. Kalam to accept another role as the President provided there is a general consensus among political parties.

    - The NDA siezes the opportunity and proclaims that Mr. Shekhawat is willing to back on contention if there is a general consensus ... and that they will back Mr. Kalam

    - The UPA still stands firm with Mrs. Patil.

But here, they have put down an eligibility requirement, which IMO no other political part or alliance has done in the past and which again IMO is very disrespectful to the first citizen of India. They have stated that they want the Indian President to be someone with a political background and are not willing to back a sitting president of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Sex Considerations - Caste Considerations - Appeasement Politics - The, as usual, attempt of one-upsmanship ---- IMHO, all this should be left out when electing the nominal head of the nation!

    Damn Indian Politics!

Of course it is...politicians divide us, because we have differences.

corrupt politicians come to power, because Indians have accepted corruption as a way of life.

from getting a birth certificate to getting a death certificate, everyone we have to bribe to get work done. and we readily do it.

Delhi government estimates 50%+ of constructions in Delhi have something illegal.

why does this happen? not because our politicians are corrupt, but because we as a society, have lost respect for law.

People build society, Before blaming the society you should stop and ask your self, did you do the good deed of day to make the society a bit better?

You dont have to bribe anyone to get anything done, but do you have guts and patience to fight for it?

Do you honestly pay each and every tax, and do not steal even a single bit from your country?

And no you dont need to answer this to me, you should answer to yourself.

You you feel our society needs a fix, you should start fixing it, regardless who follows you..

I support APJ Kalam as the president. But latest news is that he opted out of the race. I think even BJP supported his candidature, correct me if I am wrong.

My statement was for people who blame the politicians.

My earlier posts already answer your questions - when I say "we" it includes me and you.

I am not telling anyone to do this and that. All I am saying is politics is reflection of the society.

It is you who is saying our society is different from the politicians. So it is you who must be answering the questions..

You never bribe, obey all laws and pay all taxes?
