Why do we nearly all choose $ for payments?

Obviously we have directory owners here that are all over the world, using various currencies, so im wondering why we always set to $ for our payments.

Apart from a few that ive seen in £ or euros, i understand that in some countries it will be a great benefit for them to be receiving in dollars but for others that isn't the case.

Im UK based, whatever i receive in $ i know is only half of that when converted to £

I dont think there is any currency that could be called Universal, it definately isn't the Dollar, maybe the internet will have its own universal currency in the future.

funkymario, its not good is it, i can sympathise with you on this.

I do like the advantage the other way around, like purchasing domains and hosting from US companies, works nice for me that way.

an0n, hehe, nice forms of payment.:)

"I dont think there is any currency that could be called Universal, it definately isn't the Dollar" - I do think it is the most universally accepted currency. I used to make a boatload on exchagne (here in Canada) but now it is so close to par.

The US dollar is what everyone compares their money to.
So in my mind, it is universal. Even ebay says you will do better if you list in USD.
But then again... ebay are boneheads...

Oil and gold and most international products are priced in American dollars. Many countries' currencies are pegged to the American dollar or use the American dollar. Many central banks around the world hold most of their reserves in American dollars. It's the international currency...

Premium link with deep links: 5 DEEP barrels of oil
Featured link - 3 barrels of oil
Regular link - 1 barrel of oil

Also we need some new guidelines:
    - Please avoid leaky barrels.

    That sounds interesting.
Best would be oil pipeline for that.
Does anyone know how to construct it? (seo friendly of course) :D

I will also say that because US$ is the currency that is widely accepted online, further if you go for the payment processing merchant account, some merchant account limits you to accept payment in US$ only.

Im maybe misunderstanding, but im not sure if any currency stays stable, they all have moments.

I disagree with certain comments on this but i respect all of your views, im not clued up on currencies and certain things leave me scratching my head, many things dont tally up when i did some research recently regarding things like this.

Does america control the world bank? maybe that is why certain things seem so, i know who controls the banking and why, but i wont go into that here, not appropiate. ;)

All i can do is keep on going i have no control over currencies and why things are a particular way.:)

Most people and most phpld directories are from US owners, most online marketing comes from US and in USD :)

I am not sure but I think so.
