Indians, write to your leaders to get the president's post abolished, as it is an unnecessary post just to keep the hang over from the British rule. It is just a ceremonious post and waste of money not at all necessary in todays India.

in emergency situation president has a lot of powers, and he get a full command over the army, navy and airforce! so that post is not all that useless after all.

In a democracy, the powers has to be with the legislative body, namely parliament, even during emergency.

It is the PM, not the President who has all the powers during an emergency.

We should have a US type of Presidential system minus the two party system.

I think you have not read the constitutuion ,
india is a sovereign, republic, democratic country in a soverign country
the head is president elected by people ,
presidents post is just no to hang over from British rule , but its symbolic for India's unique theory that the executive, judiciary and legislative are equal , no one is above another , president being head of executive
and in case of emergency or war , president acts as a head and and combining force of navy, army and iaf

and one more.... president has the right to send back the bill once which has been passed from lok sabha for reconsideration

    It is only for "reconsideration".

If the Parliament wants to pass a bill, there isn't much the President can do about it. That is what happened with the "office of profit" bill. The Parliament refused to make any changes to it and the President had to accept it.

The President powers are more or less similar in all situations. If the Parliament wants to do something, there is always a way to do it.

The President of India is nothing but a figurehead - just there to signs bills passed by the Parliament.

Are you sure about it? Elected by people directly? I don't think so. In the case of US, it is correct in most cases, people elect the president. Even though, there are exceptions like in 2000 when Al gore won on popular vote but lost in representative votes.

The president has all the powers in case of an emergency. Although most of his steps taken are advised by the prime minister. The President is the head of the country.

The President is elected by the electoral board which consists of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha. The only exceptions are the nominated members of the LS, RS and the VS.

I'm 100% sure about it as it was just last academic year year that i learned all this in Civics :p.

And you always have wikipedia to look into for more information...

The constitution is not infallible. And it was changed already before. There is nothing wrong in changing it for sensible purposes.

Removing the President's post is in no way sensible but pretty much foolish to me.

    Read what ??

The President is only there to declare it officially. He can do absolutely nothing on his own.

Don't you know what happened during 1975-1977?

Explain why it is foolish? To me it is just a position just for the sake of a position. Somebody like the British Queen, who end up doing nothing more than waste some tax payer money.
