How can I find out who left me an infraction ?

Ok, I just PM'd a user and left a post in their thread (a link buying thread) because the OP ask that you post in the thread in addition to PMing them.

I want to know what moderator left me my infraction.

I have over one thousand post, do you really think I need to run up my post count ? Look at my post history, do I have a history of running up my post count ? NO. There are plenty of people guilty of this (and more), do your job and go give them infractions.

If you thought I was just posting crap just delete the post.

I've gotten infractions before and DIDN'T complain because I was guilty (bumping threads) so it's not like I'm complaining just to complain.

Someone needs to do a little research before they start passing out infractions to legitimate users of this forum.

I invite this moderator to PM me and explain to me their `thinking` behind this utter nonsense. I consider myself a good member of this forum and it's insulting to get an `infraction` for doing something the OP requested in regards to a business transaction.

I'm not the only person who feels this way. I've seen other respectable DP users MAD because some moderator left them an infraction for something stupid.

DP needs its users more than its users need DP. Start treating people badly and they will leave and then you will have nothing.

The only thing that makes DP special is that a lot of people come here. Those people can easily go somewhere else. Remember that.

    You are nothing without us.

So what are you gonna do ? Threaten them or something ?

You know mods are not going to like this thread.

I'm going to talk to them. I don't care if the mods like this thread or not. Their job isn't to like things. Like I said, I'm not the first 'normal' user to complain over how some people just `pass out` infractions.

UPDATE : I have now received ANOTHER infraction point for this thread.

    " Inappropriate Post/Thread "
" Starting infraction threads is inappropriate. "

Apparently it's "inappropriate" to question the basis on which you are given an infraction.

I'm assuming you are talking about this thread:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=373477

From what I've seen, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, posting something like 'PM sent' or 'Check your PM' will get you dinged by the mods because it's a worthless post because the user should know they got a PM from you. And it shouldn't matter how long you have been here, or how many posts you have. Broken rules are broken rules...

And, I know what you are going to say to that so let me counter already. You stated above:

"Ok, I just PM'd a user and left a post in their thread (a link buying thread) because the OP ask that you post in the thread in addition to PMing them."

You are defending your actions by stating the thread starter wanted to be PMed and have a reply in the thread, BUT, that guy is not a mod or in charge of the forums in any way, so even if he asked for that, does not mean I should do it when I know it's against the rules....just my two cents on your question....

Point taken and it's a good one. Thank you for your thoughtful post. To bad a mod couldn't just pop in here and say something. Instead they just gave me another infraction. How very telling.

I got an infraction once. It was devistating, I fell into such a deep depression that all I wanted to do was kill myself.
Then I remembered that its just the internet and that they go away after a month and that I needed to get a life.

Yeah because they have time to answer every single one of these threads. If they took time out to answer every single one of these threads they would never have time for anything else. The fact that they don't respond in most cases and just give another infraction keeps people from starting more of these threads.....

Can you start an infraction thread that inquires about a previous infraction thread where you are inquiring about the initial infraction?

    Let me solve it.

Person A starts an Infraction thread 1 for Infraction 1 (I1).

Person A feels he needs another thread 2 about I1 and receives Infraction 2 (I2).

Person A makes a third thread inquiring about his 2nd thread, which, in retrospect inquires about his initial thread 1.

Moral: Don't make infraction threads, you will get another infraction for it. So in the end Person Gay, I mean A, received 3 Infractions.

    You get it? :p

P.S. A mod should sticky this post so all newcomers can read the riddle, then read the answer, then understand the moral, and then learn not to get an infraction. ;)

The big DP problem as far as I am concerned is the old "Do I bump my thread" conundrum.

I made a sales thread a couple of days ago, within 150 minutes it's off the front page (rendering it pretty much forgotten) 4 hours after that it is off the second page (rendering it pretty much obsolete.)

So I bumped it 36 hours later with what I felt was a reasonable post (a legitimate response to a PM I had received that was in the interest of the OP I made) and a smart mod/admin nailed it (i.e deleted my post, sending my OP back down to the 10th page where it was beyond obsolete it was practically extinct lol) and gave me an infraction. I've modded far larger forums than this forum like back in the late 1990's I was an admin at the largest porn forum in the world with around 4,000 people online at any one time so I know all about how to admin a forum. ;)

The bump infraction lasts for 3 months (excessively long in my opinion.)

In my expert opinion certain forums are very very busy with posts and a reasonable bump should be allowed so long as it is not blatantly taking the piss. Or do I re-post it and risk another infraction? I'm not going to get into an argument over this as life is too short and I have far more important things to worry about but I think the rules for mods giving infractions needs reviewing, especially in the more busy forums here on DP.

OMG! an Infraction! Thats terrible! What ever are you going to do?

If your a "reputable" member then you have no need to worry about a stinking infraction! They expire its alright! You wouldn't be mad unless you thought you were going to get 10 because your afraid that you will be banned for a week!

Doesn't matter if any of the mods gave you an infraction. If you think that the infraction wasn't given for an appropriate reason, just PM any of the mods(preferably any of the online mods) explaining your reason on why do you think that infraction wasn't deserved by you. If the moderator agrees to it, he/she surely would discuss it with the other mods and hopefully the infraction would be removed if yours is a valid reason. Thats far more better than opening a thread about getting infractions. No offense but being rude won't get you anywhere. Be polite and the mods would be polite with you and would help you. Don't expect anyone to be good to you when you aren't good to them. Making threads about infractions aren't the characteristics of a reputed member.

I hope whatever I said was right. If the mods feel that any of it is wrong, I'm sorry. You are always welcome to edit my post and correct me. A PM would be much appreciated if i'm wrong anywhere.
