does anybody do this?

i hate getting up in the morning without having a lie in, so on a workday i set my alarm an hour ealier than i need to, then when it goes off i know that i have another hour to sleep and i reset the alarm.
my husband thinks i'm crazy, and doesn't like being woken up an hour earlier 'cos he says he can't get to sleep again.
please say i am not alone here.

Someone else in our household does that type of thing, but he has an alarm that goes off about 2 or 3 hours earlier than he needs, then another one later! I couldn't stand it, and would feel the same as your husband. So I make him have it quiet (he's got the alarm set to radio, so can adjust the volume).

I'm just glad we work from home, to our own hours, and rarely have to get up early to an alarm. :)

If I need to get up "early" the next day, I set an alarm to tell me when to go to bed. If I ignore it and stay up too late, then I get what I deserve the next day.

I do that!!! Actually more like 3 hours before the time I should wake up. Sleeping early and drinking water before bed helps! :p

As long as you get the ___ amount of hours you usually do from sleeping early, it makes the waking up process much easier!

I support you, I'm doing the same, but only in week-ends, when my clock alarm goes at 7 am then, I wake up just to turn off the alarm, and to realize I get to sleep another 4-5 hours! That's the most beautiful thing in life! I sleep alone, so nobody is messed up by my alarm.

    that happens...

i do that sometimes..snooze it for like 30 minutes...

you might want to try this too...

Wake Up Puzzle . You have to build the puzzle to make it stop

Chicken and Egg Problem - The egg laying alarm clock. It will only quiet down after you put all the eggs back.

Hide and Seek - The winner is the hide and seek alarm clock. Once it begins to ring it falls down to the floor and finds a random place to hide. Chase it down or else you're doomed.

    have fun!

I have it like 30 mins before, just so I don't fall asleep again when I actually have to get up

I like the ideas Dr Pepper did you make 'em up or got it from a site.

I leave my alarm 30 mins before because i can't get up i crawl with my blanket out to the couch and eat my toast infront of the heater and then about an hour later when im awake i get ready.

Im the same. I think its normal. Thats cause I sleep at 2 am and wake up at 8 am. :D

I usually get up earlier than necessary so that I can watch some television or surf the internet, write, read or draw. Things that occupy my time, and that are relevant to my interests so that by the time I actually go to work I don't feel like work is the first thing I've done all day.

I really can't stand the feeling of work being the first and last thing you do in a day. So I make those beginning, ending and in-between activities ones that really matter to me. Hyuu~

I have modified the technique a little to include the boyfriend bitching as part of the waking up process because I could basically sleep through a train wreck. I set my alarm about 45 minutes earlier than I actually have to get up. I have an alarm that has 2 alarms in it and neither will wake me up. So, about 20 or so minutes into both alarms blaring, the boyfriend will finally wake up, nudge me and whine loudly until i get up and turn off the alarms. So basically the alarms are there to wake up the boyfriend so he can wake me up!!

I used to set my alarm to ring every 5 mins for 30 mins before waking time.
But this was when I hated my job

I think I am the odd man out here. Because I never use alarms :p

I get up when I wake up and I wake up when my sleep completes :p

Well if I must wake up early then my body works as an alarm and wakes itself up in time :D

Yes even I do the same thing. I set my alarm 1 hour before too. I love to do this, when my alarm goes off I know that I still have an hour more to sleep, and that 1 hour I really sleep like a baby. :)

drpepper I think these alarm clocks will do their job without failing (they will definitely wake up a person) and so I would really hate to have any of these in my house...LOL.

I usually set the alarm about 1 hour before I actualy need to be up. That way I can savor the last few minutes that I get to lay there before having to start the day.

If it works for you, then you are not crazy, though I don't know anyone else who does it. Do you use a second alarm to wake you up at the right time, or do you risk oversleeping and being late for work?
Of course this would be fine if you were living alone, but I can't help feeling sorry for your husband who is deprived of an hour's sleep. Perhaps your husband would be happy to go to the bathroom first while you have a lie-in and then fix breakfast while you go to the bathroom. This would only give you an extra 15 minutes or so in bed, but your husband wouldn't lose an hour's sleep.
Of course if you are so tired in the mornings, an early night may be a healthier solution.
