Microsoft to Release SP1 for Vista

Microsoft said it expects the changes to be implemented in its first service pack for Vista, putting to rest speculation among Microsoft watchers that the company would do away with its practice of catchall software upgrades. The software maker plans to release an early version of Service Pack 1 by the end of the year.

You can find the story in AP technology section.

What strikes me is that they will launch SP1 in the same year with Vista's release. They mush patch a lot of things, it seems.

Don't wait for Vista SP1, pleads Microsoft
Microsoft has launched a "fact rich" program to help customers understand why they should "proceed with confidence" in rolling out Vista across all their PCs. "Some customers may be waiting to adopt Windows Vista because they've heard rumors about device or application compatibility issues, or because they think they should wait for a service pack release," the company said in a newsletter.

Microsoft does not get it. People have heard Microsoft say how great there product is only to be disappointed by it. You can not hype a program and then not deliver.

Microsoft's marketing Team is great they have found that everybody is waiting for a service pack before trying Vista so they come up with a service pack.I'll not even try it before sp2 :)

I thought Vista will not have any SP like XP because Vista got some kind of technology that auto update by itself... Err.. or maybe I'm dead wrong.. :(

Yes, but I suspect it might have something to do with Google's antitrust complaints around vista's desktop search.

Not if people are not buying Vista because there waiting for SP1. To many people complaining about hardware and software incompatibilities. They kill to birds with one shot.

I think we are going to have to wait 5+ years for vista to be good.

Xp was the same way when it came out, now its pretty good with all the updates.

Imagine Xp with only 20 updates? Currently I have 107 Updates for xp.
