Do Women make better leaders than men?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by anthonyn, Jun 21, 2007.

It is certainly not easy for women to choose fields that are dominated by men, because in order to do that, they must successfully overcome male egos and resentment at the workplace. They do have the enthusiasm and talent, if they were given the right opportunities, they could go places.

While some of my friends (male) say that women could not handle leadership due to their dual role as home makers and working women, at the same time some of my female friends were of the opinion that they make better leaders as they are more careful in handling responsibilities.

What is your strong opinion about this discussion?

Agreed to the initial part of the post. Women can excell in leadership and or management if given the oppportunity. they do have the potential to lead and manage.

Women are supposed to be emotionally stronger than men. I personally believe that both of them can do their jobs equally well if they wish to.............

From the dawn of time men were born to lead and women to follow. Of course the world evolves, and we are all individuals, so it's true that some women can be better.

Men have serious problems with their egos, it's just the way we're wired. We starts wars, hold grudges for centuries, and are generally dim-witted and quick to overreact.

How often do you see 2 drunk chicks fighting in the street over nothing?
Yes it happens occasionally, but the results are generally much less severe than when males go nuts. Same with world politics.

I'd be happy to let women rule the world.

Bitching is kinda different to fighting :p

If all wars were reduced to "bitching over lunch", the world would be a better place.

I agree but in moderation :D

Well from what ive read somehwhere apparently more women prefer staying at lower/medium mangerial positons then men, many of them find that other aspects of life more important then their carees, men tend to be more career orientated, of course this is no rule :D. But from what ive seen both can be equally good.

Individual women can be good at some specific things. Individual men can be good as some specific things. Some women are not good leaders. Some men are not good leaders.

Generally speaking, however, a look into History tells us a very clear answer to that question.

You cant really look at history as women were never giving a proper chance to prove themselves in this arena.

I'd love to see a female vs male "unpopularity" list.

    Unpopular female leaders - Thatcher.
Unpopular male leaders - All of them :)

Gender doesn't matter, it's the person. There's no proven fact that all women would make better leaders than men and vice versa. Men and women can be good and bad leaders so it isn't dependent on gender, but on actions taken.

I believe women can excel at leadership. Do I know if they would be better than a man? No, I don't, because women haven't really been given the opportunity to prove themselves in that area.

I tend to agree with Duality - it's not really about gender. It depends what they do when they are given leadership responsibilities.

(Dual role as homemakers and working women? I have no interest in being a homemaker ;))
