From what I understand, if you sign up using Paypal China then you can only receive payments locally. But if you use the Paypal International website, you can sign up for a Premier Paypal account which allows you to receive payments from overseas including credit card payments.

A Credit Card is a payment instrument which means that typically it cannot be used to receive payments but just to make payments. You will need a credit card processor to receive credit card payments.

To accept credit cards you'll need a merchant account. You can try an online process manager such as 2checkout. Then you can accept credit cards directly however there are some drawbacks.. I don't think 2checkout has any agreements with The Bank Of China, or China Merchant Bank, or China Construction Bank, or any other bank in China, so you'll need a U.S. bank account for the payments to be sent, if that U.S bank account has a debit card you can withdraw through a Bank of China ATM.

The only thing you have to be careful of is the type of products you are selling. If there is any question of your products, or if you access your accounts from different IP addresses they may call you a security risk. If you need an American to help you out.. bank.. U.S. address.. or anything like that please let me know, I've been in Guangzhou for about 6 years and let me tell you, financial transactions between a foreign country and China is not an easy or transparent task to accomplish.

Credit Cards or Debit cards cannot be used to accept payments. These funds need to be reflected to your PayPal account if you have ability to do so.

    Translation II : )

Hello DP! I am from China and I am having some payment processing problems and was wondering if you could help me to find a solution. I would like to accept credit cards, as a form of payment from my clients in countries like the United States, and U.K. but it seems to be impossible for me to find a way to accept credit cards; I am unsure of how the system works and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

Use PayPal International Account. Allows you to accept CC payments from International users as well.

The problem with paypal for Chinese users is that the only way to get funds is by check, unless they have a U.S. bank account and most Chinese citizens don't know the procedure well enough to get a U.S. bank account. If I cashed a foreign check here it could take up to 45 days! Paypal is not so established here in China as it is in other countries.

    2 choices.

    1. mentioned above. Sign up for Paypal international (not paypal China), through here you can receive payments from overseas and accept foreign credit cards. But yes, you can only receive cheques, and this takes time.

    2. Open an account at 'Bank of China'.. Bank of China has many new accounts in the last 2 years, that allow foreign countries to T/T amounts to your account.
Some accounts need you to provide documentation for amounts over 2,000USD, but the newer ones do not. I have both of these and have been accepting foreign T/T transfers for a number of years.
I advise you go into Bank of China and ask about these accounts.
