because adsense is crap on directories, and if its a paid directory with adsense people will not submit to it.

Is that true? Adsense never provide direct link, while the submitter can have direct link which is good for seo.

    Seems about right SasaVtec:cool:

On one of our other directories we had adsense for about a year, could not make money either on the directory or with the adsense, then we removed the adsense and the review submissions started coming in on a regular basis

Is that not a complete justification on why not to use

If you search big directories most of them have ads. It depends at what level and type of directory you have.

People, specially web masters never click adsense in directories. I had adsense in mine for a while to test. No cliks. So I took them off, got a cleaner look then.

Yep. I agree. Directories + Adsense = No Return IMO. Unless your directory PP status. You might get some revenue that way.

My directory is clean as a whistle. No ads.

    Col :)

I originally had a place to put adsense but I changed it to a banner ad and someone bought it now I am trying to decide if I want to take the verticle adsense off and offer a banner space there also

Agreed thats QBC crap and we dont want it on ours whether its goggles or yahoos as its not worth losing clients for the few pennies it offers in return

( Most webmasters just ignore it so i doubt anyone cam claim they make tons of money from it )

Let the QBCs eat lunch twice monthly with googles adsence revenue.. lol

    thx

adsense can be worth it for content sites.
if your site had unique content, not just the same listings as in every other directory or content copied from wikipedia or somewhere else you could make a descent income with adsense.
business.com and uncoverthenet don't rely on submissions for their income.

Like i said above most wont like the idea of adsence being anywhere on a "Paid Directory"...
if YOU want to go ahead... I myself prefer info about the catagory and news feeds to keep
    my clients happy
compared to making a few cents in clicks...
Too each his own... BUT Not mine ;)

    thx

    i agree with you,
    these are qbc sites.

I have adsense on one of my free directories - does okay but nothing special. Get around $100 a month from it but the site gets > 1000 visits a day now so the conversion is pretty bad.

Agreed, adsense on paid directories is not a good idea. If/when my free directory goes paid the adsense will be removed.

    yes just like
    dir.yahoo.com
    business.com
    uncoverthenet.com
    etc ....

I myself am building a directory that will not rely on webmasters to submit to. I am adding content frequently in the blogs http://enquira.com/resources/ and will use it in the directory pages when I have enough content. I have other plans as well. the guy from uncoverthenet is buying a lamborghini from the sponsored ads not from paid submissions.
so why don't stop calling anything different qbc. concentrate on your plans.

Because all quality directories are paid in one shape or form, and google ads + paid links = no business.

Yeah, when I started my directory, I had adsense on there and there were not submissions. After taking it off (soon after startup) the submissions started coming quite regularly!
