muslim police woman in cambridgeshire wears hijab

yesterday it was reported on the regional news that a muslim police woman in cambridgeshire was to be allowed to wear the hijab with her uniform.
actually the hijab did not detract from the overall uniform and was quite unobtrusive unlike the veil. but is this the right way to go?
obviously in france it would never be allowed, the law there dictating that a person employed in the public sector should not wear anything that might denote their religious beliefs.
personally i think the wearing of the hijab is fine, after all many non-muslim women wear headscarfs, but i do believe that if this were to be taken further as a result with more muslim women calling for the wearing of the veil in the public sector then i would be deadset against it, simply because the veil hides the identity of the wearer thereby rendering it impossible for others to engage with a faceless entity.

I am a bit confused, is she wearing a headscarf (so what's teh problem) or is she hiding her face as well.

the hijab is a muslim covering for the head - so yes a headscarf in other words. which as i have said i see no problem with, but am worried about where it might lead with regard to muslim women demanding further concessions with the wearing of uniforms i.e. the wearing of the veil

no the hijab is not a covering for the head , hijab is covering for the head and the body and also means modesty, privacy and good behaviour.
you would not see a woamn with a short skirt and "a hijab" would you?

oh well that's already the case don't you think so? I don't see how a woman wearing a scarf on her head can be seen as a problem, the problem for me are the men wearing their torusers so low it shows their pants, i find them silly and offensive but I believe that they have been banned in a state? good!!!

It's called learning to comform, and muslims should have to do it the same as everyone else.

in California, USA, a year or so ago, Muslim women wanted to wear a veil for their driver license picture. they made quite a stink due to their beliefs, guess what...show the face or no license.

of course there is no problem with the young police woman wearing a hijab.
and i did not refer to the full body covering because the woman in question was only covering her head. in fact in iran the word 'hijab' has come literally to mean only a covering for the head, with the 'chador' or 'manteau' being a covering for the whole body. but the problem lies with the way others may construe this as a means to push their more fundamentalist ideas on female clothing in the public sector. also, i agree, the men's trousers showing their underpants, very unappealing, but seeing as it does not denote any religious leaning i don't suppose it really qualifies in this argument.

when you think about it it's only a piece of cloth on the head?

i think you will find alaska88 that it is a whole lot more than just a piece of cloth on the head to those of a muslim persuasion.
and i believe that people should be allowed to wear religious headgear or discrete symbols, as long as it does not get in the way of their work, or cause others to feel uncomfortable when dealing with them, but i believe the veil should never be allowed in the public sector.

When you think about it, it's only a faith, why should she have special treatment just because of her faith ?

the UK is debating about banning people from wearing the hoodie, so now cops can wear a hoodie too?
it is not the part of a traditional UK police uniform, so she should not be allowed to wear it.
