    Hi all,

i was wondering about mysite: results.

I hope everyone knows that when you use this command:

site:http://www.xyz.com in google, yahoo and msn, you get the number of pages listed.

However the results are different when you usethis command site://www.xyz.com.

Why is it like that? May be because of the type we follow to build links.
Secondly, what is the use of this command in improving ur popularity.

My website was PR4 and site: results was showing me 13,600 pages listed 3 months ago whereas now it is 9600 pages ( drop of 4000 pages)..but the PR is still 4.

I believe the drop in pages is possible due to duplicate content.

when i comapre my website with my comeptitors...i really gets pissed off. They have site results of 60,000 and PR5. i agree that PR5, that may be because of better content, optimization, etc..but pages.....????

what has site results to do with the website optimization and PR?

overall, iam confused about this site:command and its functioanlity?

can anyone help me to get through this ?

Having more pages isn't a good thing unless the pages rank and get traffic. If your competitors are creating useless pages then thats not going to help them.

Also the site: operator is only an estimate, google admits it can be inaccurate.
