I found a site selling monthly PR9 text links - would you buy one for your directory?

Whilst browsing around a site i'm sure you are all familiar with, i noticed the phpbb.com was selling sitewide text links on the page footer.

I emailed them asking how much it was for a text link in the footer. They told me it worked out at $1500 for a month.

So directory owners, would you spend $1500 on 1 page rank 9 link, if it helped to bring you PR8?

And what if phpbb gains a PR10 again, would you spend $1500 for the month before the page rank update? Would it be worth it if your directory increased to RP7 or PR8.

A PR8 directory would allow your traffic and sales to increase hugely. So who would actually take the plunge and spend so much for a PR9 link.

Its the only site i have ever found to be selling PR9. Wow!

Let me know what you think

    Mike

Yes, a number of people have done this. It gets a little tricky at the top though, so be prepared to lose the money (by not getting the pagerank you expected). At the same time, be prepared to gain a lot of money too (by getting a pr 7 or 8 site and selling lots of links).

I already know that site selling links -.;) There is another highly recognised PR9 site selling links -- http://linux.org (check footer --wanna gamble or be s....y:p)

I am of the opinion that Google manually monitors these sites and check if they are selling direct link. Please check Matt Cutts blog --he gives nice examples. He also mentions that a site selling links does not loose its credibility or PR. Just that those links are useless in terms of passing PR juice:(

My strategy is to maintain PR6 over a long period of times --and so I am interested in just PR7 links.

I think before spending that on a link you need to be aware what pagerank is and how the link may benefit you. As dvduval mentions you might not get the PR you expected, be prepared to lose the money.

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding in what Pagerank actually means.

http://www.linux.org/ - lol thats the one thing Matt Cutts commented on! They are cracking down on links for such sites with random links on.

By all means, go and buy a PR9 link. But if Google has already given less "juice" for these links. Won't you be abit annoyed?

Play cool, and keep it safe

Personally, I would not buy any link over PR6...
The price is far too high and I believe those links are watched closely by the powers that be. Its simply not worth it...

Never. Why not spend 1 month's pay on 1500 worth of quality content. For 1500 you could get EVERY CATEGORY in your directory a 300-500 word summary of the category. Only god knows how many applications you could build to generate links as well for free , organically.

Spending big money on links isn't a smart idea. Build stuff that make people link t you. Also when you STOP paying a link, you STOP getting the power. Typically people who ink to you for free are there for life.

My 0.02$. - Save your Money! (Said in the tone of that dude from ING commercials!).

IMO, PR 9 is too hot to pass link juice.

Well since you guys are spilling the beans on which sites are selling links I'm almost willing to bet that none of these sites will pass any juice to the ones listed. I perdict that these sites will drop by one or two points because of this.

    Ditto.
I believe Google already knows this site and the links on the site are devalued.

Yep, it's like statcounter.com, links from their were devalued quite some time ago. But i'm sure it's not hard for them to keep track of PR8-10 websites to monitor :)

yes google knows these sites selling links as 1 link is mentioned in matt cutt blogs.
so it is better not too go for risk rather go for more safer things like content which is now gaining popularity in directories also.
and i have spent $$$ that much to get content in my main categories of directories.:D

Here is a tip for you guys before you start selling the farm to get a high page rank. Make sure one you check cache dates, moreover make sure you investigate the other sites listed to see if they have gained any pr from it. I run across alot sites selling high pr links so I watch them for awhile to see if they are passing any juice and most of the time they do not. Sometimes you get lucky and find one that is untouched and those would be the best to go for, just make sure you keep your mouth shut when you find it.

But keep in mind that sometimes those links are only good for one update, after that they normally tank.
