Does it works for seoing? I'm commenting like 5 diff blogs a day leaving a link to my website with the name of it.

Yes it works, but only if your comments seem sincere and not "spammy".
Generally reading the article or post and making informed and interesting observations on the subject matter, will draw readers to your place to see, what you are up to.

If you just go to a few blogs and write, "Hey nice blog", you won't get many followers.
It also helps to visit blogs related to yours, and not just comment on the one with PR just to get a backlink.

Nothing you can do about that. If the blog is good enough ask for a link exchange, or write an article about the blog. Most people ego will lead them to mention your post, and if they are not selfish, will give you a back link to show their readers how cool they are.

It depends on what type of blogs you are commenting and their Page rank etc, have you checked your comments appear there with link that you leave on?

Depends on the settings for the comment, if the comment contains nofollow in every link you put (or if the page has been disallowed by robots.txt) it is not worth it.

As everyone's said, most blog comments are nofollow but no-one knows really how much weight Yahoo, AV and MSN give to these backlinks. Certainly they have some slight traffic value.

Does the no-follow make google don't see it as a backlink? Or he just don't follow it to indexing?

Well... I'm commenting like 5 times everyday(not spammy), let's see what will happen on the next PR update :)

i use SEO elite to monitor by backlink..surprisingly, the comments on blog leave me with NA status on link quality...has anybody in DP face that too ? and sometimes i saw comments with anchor link on it, done by the poster...does it count too in SEO ?

If you're commenting for backlink value, forget it. As others have said, most blog platforms apply nofollow to links in comments.

However, if you're making valid and insightful comments, people will definitely follow the link back to your blog and maybe poke around for a while. Here's a thing to remember - not all blogs are equal. If you comment on a blog with virtually no visitors, no-one will see your link to follow through.

However, if you can get a good quality, early comment on a popular blog (say Techcrunch), you stand to get a better clickthrough rate. I haven't tried it, but perhaps watching Digg and commenting on upcoming stories (on the original site) might be useful as well.

Commentating on related blogs is a tactic I've been employing for a while now and it certainly brings traffic if you are selecting the right ones.

One thing I have noticed is that since I started doing this I have ranked a lot better in Yahoo which may or may not be a coincidence. Definitely not seeing any effect of blog commenting with regards to Google or MSN though.

Indeed, thats the ONLY value your link will have in a comment, but after all, if you give a nice comment with examples and unique idea to the post, most peoples will follow the link and read your blog. It is a good source for free traffic. And the SEO value has been already answered, for Google, nofollow tag means the link should not be followed by Googlebot once he has impact to that link.

commenting on blog can help you get traffic but when it comes to improving site ranking it depends on the blog if the site was related and it does not use no follow attribute.

Yes it will! but be sure and see to it that you are commenting on to blog that is most likely related to your site and that blogs are always updated by its moderator, and of course it must be a popular and has a high page rank blog.

Blog comments do work. Even if the blogs have nofollow for external links, some blogs use a 'Top Commentators Plugin' which can give you links in return. I've received several dofollow links from blogs, and others from the Link Love Plugins etc when I add free blog comments on blogs. When I visit other blogs, I usually blog about them in return if I find some interesting article there, hence giving a link to that blog in. I'm sure a few more people do like this if they like your content.
