    Hi,

I just wanted to know if listing in free web directories is worthwile. I hear of paid directory submissions and all of that, however I just think that the extremely minor backlink that you get wouldn't be worth the trouble. Maybe I'm mistaken? So do Web Directorys give noticable boost to your site?

Paid directories are promoted heavily and they have strong backlinks.
Paid directories have PR in inner pages too.. They are spam free and human edited with SEO friendly structure.

Free directories gets 1000s of submission daily, so its hard to manage and the directory gets filled with lot of crap sites..

It takes me less than a minute to submit a site to a free directory.

I think a free backlink is worth it. ;).

Are you using any form filler such as RoboForm?

That makes the submission work a lot easier.

I would go ahead and submit to bidding directories a lot, especially the ones starting at a buck. You don't have to rank on top of the homepage to benefit. And you should NOT look at the PR they have RIGHT NOW. Many are rising in PR. The bidding concept is excellent since the $1.00 fee does keep most spammers away and the directory is most likely going to have sites in it which the owner takes care of.

See webmaster always work on his directory. Those directories that provide featured and free listing are also ok; DMOZ is a good example of free directory.
If it takes a day for submitting your website to 1000 web directory, It means in near future you are getting lost of back links.
    Isn't a good deal?

I've never heard of RoboForm before. Does it automatically fill in fields for you on the subscription.

At the moment I am not listing in directories, but I do have a few fairly new sites which I am thinking of using a directory for. I guess if you put it in terms of 1000 sites a day, I suppose that would definatley be worth it.

Yes, it can fill in fields automatically. However the fields vary for different scripts.

Most sites use phpld script, so you will be able to use the same data for most sites.

    It's free to try - www.roboform.com

Its true, I run a paid directory, but I submit to free and paid and I find it more beneficial to submit to the paid ones because the links get more traffic and are all around more quality. Go for paid!

Those who are directory owner they will defiantly guide you to purchase a paid link. it is there business. See you are purchasing pr3 paid link for $30. or you are doing a manual directory submission for $30.
If we compare, Manual directory submission will at least generate guaranteed 300+ backlinks on yahoo.

I am not against of paid link if you want ot invest on paid links go for Text-link-ads and purchase theme based link this will help you lot for increase SERP.

Now its up to you how smart you are.;)

Well i believe that paid links are more beneficial to your site because all the free places accept crap sites and the spam gets out of control. The paid places need to keep their index quality in order to get submissions. I mean, I have done a lot of both and have found that the paid go a little bit further than the free, thats just my opinion.

Free Directories can still be counted as backlinks.

The advantages of Paid Directories is that most likely they are popular. They have high PR which would be helpful to you (think SEO). They can also have targeted audiences (so submit to paid directories of the same niche).
