Recent PR drop

    Hi
I've recently had PR drop from 5 to 4 on two of the sites that I look after. It doesn't seem to have badly affected my search positions but they have dropped a few places. I'm more just curious why this would happen. I guess specifically what I'm wondering is if this was a common occurrence in the last update and Google dropped PR from a lot of sites or if it's specifically just my sites. Can anyone shed some light?

If they are linked to from the same sites you might have some links no longer around. Some sites might be down or gone. Some links might not rank well in google anymore.

If 2 sites drop same rank and same time i think it could be links to the sites.

The sites are not related in any way, and dont share any links. Thats why it seemed strange to me and I wondered if Google had just lowered a lot of pr in the last update to make room for the every growing number of links.

    hey,
I noticed very strange thing with my rankings today also, I think this might be the same thing you have... or something is happening, one of my sites drop in search results very very low, for some search terms it is targeted it was in top 10 in google (first 5 positions), and now it`s gone... Can`t find it for any of the keywords it is targeted... It`s one year old site, have good incoming links... just started to get good traffic for couple of months... and BOOM  Yes, PR is the same for now.. but who cares about it, when traffic dropped on -200% :(
Site is not banned, it is still in serps, I`m not using some black hat seo stuff to promote it... just link exchange and some pay links... very strange...
For some reason Google search results are very unstable now... my sites are jumping up and down every day... :( and I would understand if it`s moved from 5th position to 10th or even 20th, but this is too much... :(

They adjusted that part of the algo I believe.

Heck, even Firefox's start page dropped from a 5 to a 4. If you're worried about PR, then you'll just have to get more links out there. GOOD links.

Your guess is as good as mine man. I have several PR6+ sites that have been that way pretty much since the beginning. No SEO involved, they are naturally ranked, nothing special done to them, and they dropped...

Meanwhile I have sites that could border on BH that went up. Again, your guess is as good as mine.

Lately, as far as Google is concerned, I am starting to wonder if PR really means what it once did. ;)

I had a PR4 site drop to PR3 after I acquired ( naturally) a number of incoming PR7 and PR6 links. Go figure. However after a few weeks now my traffic has tripled..

This is all very interesting. I'm beginning to suspect that maybe Google really is penalising paid links as this is something a few people mentioned here and something both my sites are involved in, either buying or selling. Does anybody else think this might be the cause? Google have threatened to do something like this, I just assumed they wouldn't be able to distinguish paid links

When was the last time you experience the PR update? Because I don't have any PR update on my blog.

May be the other sites that were linking to you have gone down in PR and as a result your PR too would have gone down.

SEO is a continuous process and it never ends.

Don't stop your work when you get PR5 or more !
