Hey guys I've recently written a Social Bookmarking Guide which can be seen in my sig. I wrote it on the success of one of my recent sites and just put a post up on my new company blog which is < 3 weeks old. Anyway, to my amazement - my site has hit the #1 position in Google! Here's the image to show I'm not bluffing, and the term it ranks for is "Social Bookmarking Guide": ------------------------------------------------------ Want to know how I did it? Just take a look at my Marketing Blog, I will post a new up for you all! Thanks guys! Rich
Google gives top positions to all new sites, keeps it for a week or two and figures out if it deserves those high positions.
Does it bring you good traffic? Also make sure the visitors find what they are looking for for that key phrase and the chances will be high that you stay #1
On a recent trip to Africa, my wife had a Hippo Attack (everyone was OK) so I posted that story this weekend. Currently ranks #11 on Google ... so yea, freshness boost comes into play.
It happens with the new G algo. Quality new sites with good SEO go to top 10 with key phrases, not with very competitive key words ofcourse!
Wow @russianzio - I'm not overly concerned about the keywords right now, but am pretty amazed at how Google ranked such a new page so high. Rich
I guess i should take my girlfriend to Africa to see crocodiles, write a nice story on my blog Ok, for my automotive newest site, look at this phrase ford 2007 europe one week after site launch #1 Its there now for 3 weeks, hope it stays there. I have around 20 more keyu phrases that stick in top 10.
Yeah man Makes you wonder - if you can rank that high so fast, how do you cope being an established site with all these newbies stealing your serps?????? Rich
Congratulations. As others have said; I've seen this happen before with new sites on Google, sometimes with quite competitive keywords. The hard part is staying in #1 Mark
It's got 12,000,000 other results so quite competitive I guess, but not so popular I would have thought.
You ranked that high because that keyword phrase has no competition. Its easy to rank on keywords like that. Its the ones that bring traffic are the hard ones. So I wouldnt expect a drop at all.
The results dont measure competition. Do http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=allinanchor:"Social+Bookmarking+Guide" That will show you how many webpages use those anchor texts and will tell you how competitive a keyword is. For instance I rank on the first page for "Directory Network" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=directory+network It returns over 300 Million results. Well that term isnt competitive so thats why its ranked high. It returns a ton of results because those two words are found on the same page on a ton of webpages.
