I've got a few sites, most of which are themed shopping sites (products from a specific market niche). I would think that the retail sites would go under 'shopping'. However, these sites would fit better under 'recreation'. But when a directory owner has a section for 'shopping', this leads me to believe that the sites under 'recreation' are suppose to be information only. But since my sites are very specific to a market, it would seem odd listing my site with all the other 'Buy Gifts Online' type of sites. What category should I list my site under with the best chances of getting approved?
There is usually a "recreation" subcategory, if directory has "shopping" top category. So, in my opinion, that would be the best category to submit to.
Most Directories if your site meets the guidelines will move you to a suitable category in the event of category selection being in-correct We would anyway and if you want we will set up categories especially for you if you have a few to submit Forplex Business Directory http://www.forplex.com/submit.php If we don't have what you need please send PM Thanks for your consideration

Business > Retail And, where appropriate: Business > Retail > Toys Business > Retail > Home Business > Retail > Books
Most of the directories have "shopping" as a top category where you will be allowed to get Featured link only.. So better select the appropriate sub-category in shopping or business category. BQTM Gifts
K, so it looks like the general census is to completely ignore the 'recreation' category, and look for the shopping/business categories. Thanks
Many directories will accept a shopping site in the "recreation" cat, but understandably, the acceptance rate will be lower than if you'd submit it in one of the shopping subcats.
I think if your site meets the inclusion criteria you will find your site moved to where appropriate even if submitted to a slightly off topic category. Shopping > Major Retailers Business > Retail Equipment
As Velocity said, many directories with "Shopping" top category will have "Recreation" as sub category. You are more than welcome to submit here Shopping->Recreation If you plan to submit 5 or more sites, PM me for discount.

Here's another one.... Didn't feel I should be starting a new thread. One of our sites is for the actual manufacturer of products. The site in question does NOT sell anything. The customer base gets a printed catalog and faxes/emails/phones in the orders. Always wholesale and in bulk quantity. I figured that the site doesn't go under shopping, because it's primarily a B2B. But the best category would be under manufacturing. A lot of directories don't cater to this. If they don't, where would be the best place to put it? B2B? Wholesale/Trade? International (we deal over seas too)?
Sometimes the best thing to do is to suggest a category. Some directories will allow you to submit notes along with your website, so you can suggest a category that would suit you better. You might also consider: Business > Industry Business > Wholesale
