Hey guys, I'm just wondering if my blog has a healthy rate of growth...It's been up for about 3.5 months and I have about 300 subscribers. I used to think that was quite a good number for a young blog, given that a few other blogs the same age have less than me.

Then I saw zenhabits.net (in the same niche as I am), and he's got 10,000 subs, and he started in Jan 2007! That's insane!

What is the norm? And I have a feeling he's been around for longer than that, but he's removed all 2006 archives.

What are your numbers, and what your niches?

I have 3. Haha. Its been up for around just over a week.

    That seems fairly pathetic.

You seem to be doing well however! Keep up the good work.

300 subscribers is a pretty good figure.... Are all of those naturally obtained ? If so, you can give yourself a pat on the back :)

As long as you continue to get traffic and make money, do not worry too much about subscriber counts ;) :)

    Good content is primary.
For me, and my blog, right now, I have 2 New Release, autographed CD give aways going, and I make it known in every post that I will be giving away things every month and to stay tuned.
Every since I started that, my subscriber ship has grown from 300 to 1400. Doing around 23 new subscribers a day for 75 days. (My blog is 75 days old)
My uniques last month were around 100 a day, this month around 250 a day with 3000 page views a day.

hmansfield, so you give away a CD a month to a random subscriber? How do you monetize your site? I haven't monetized mine yet.

300 for 3 months is good, even more if that is your first blog.

My main blog has around 3000 after 6 months, but it was not my first blog so I knew where to promote it and stuff. The niche also helps (blogging).

Of course that is the million dollar question.
The CD give away thing, that is from some management companies that I promote their artists. I have had good luck with support there, even when this blog was on Free Hosted Word Press.

My big problem is, I just started making content. I really didn't listen to much conventional wisdom about what I should do, I just did what I would like to see on a blog like this.
I didn't really have a clear cut monetization goal, and as such, I have readers, but I am not really giving them much direction as far as the "real" purpose of this blog.
I am working on that now.
Right it's very little money, but content, traffic, and the little things that make people(companies) take notice like DMOZ and stuff like that is my main goal.
Kind of a , "If you build it they will come" attitude.

Absolutely the wrong way to start, but as I said, I tend to do the opposite of what has already been done.
Most of the things I have done, or are doing, I have been advised that it is a waste of time, but, when I wake up everyday, and see that I have gained links from industry related Directories and Websites, that I haven't even targeted, I know something must be going right.

300 is good if it's natural and they actually read your blog regularly.

Mine's been up for over a year... basically neglected most of the time but since I've been a little more reliable and posting semi-regularly I've gotten up to about 45 subscribers.

I have a lot of visits though... I guess people just don't want to subscribe.

    Congrats anyway.
