Wordpress or standard Website?

What are the pros and cons when creating a wordpress blog as opposed to a standard website?

I have some sites that have a wp blog subdomains but no sites that are wp only. I don't know why I haven't started a WP only site but something tells me that I should.

    Thanks!

I run quite a few WP only sites.. They're easy to update, search engine friendly, already have the RSS component built-in, and there are tons of blog directories you can submit them to.

Of course, it depends on the complexity of your site and what you're trying to promote or sell. There's no way my ecommerce site could run off of WP, but some of my affiliate sites work better as a soft sell through a blog instead of through a traditional website.

WordPress can give you the advantage to modify the pages quicker but it is slightly harder to tweak it (as you would be able to tweak a static HTML site). Yet, if the site going to be something big, and you do have enough PHP knowledge, WP could be easily used as CMS instead of as blog and would do the thing just perfectly.

I have both, static and WP sites, i would say that WP site saves much more time, but the static site has slightly better SE ranking (it could as well depend on the niche, since the two sites are of a completely different niche).

What it counts, is traffic and ad placement. So static website or WP site i don't think it counts much.

    Just my opinion.

Couldn't have said it better. There is something about the informality, yet informational aspect of a well manged blog that people respond to, and the SEO benefits cannot be beat.
    I vote Word Press.
Take a look around at some of the ones around here, and you may see some things that you like that are easier on a blog.

I make good money with WordPress only sites, especially if I use an AdSense-friendly theme. Easy to update and Google loves WordPress!

Here are two WP only sites I run:
    JetEmployment
    TravelAccountants

I like wordpress more unless you have a good layout for a normal website.

Are you intending to create a blog or simply wanting to use WP for a standard site ? Whether or not WP would be suitable for you depends on what kind of site you have in your mind. While WP would definitely do if you have a simple idea in mind, it may not work if your idea is a little complex.........

Just a little PHP, and it also has a visual mode when you´re posting.
My site´s not in the sig, because of the adult content. PM me if you want to take a look.

I also have both Wordpress and regular sites. I do like Wordpress a lot because I can develop a site in a matter of minutes, from registering the domain, setting up the script, skinning it and adding content.

On the other hand, WordPress does have it's limitations, but when you consider the time to deploy a decent site, it is an excellent tool.

Yep, wordpress is also easily integrated with income generating systems and has tons of plugins for different use.

Alternatively, you might want to consider some content management system like www.Joomla.org or www.Drupal.org

wordpress is easily mistaken for a blog platform. wordpress is a CMS platform so it is beneficial to use as a regular website or a blog platform

I use it for a blog but I will soon be using it as a standard CMS platform - me I have been using it recently just over a month ever since I converted from my other CMS platform and I enjoy wordpress much more

I've been in this biz for many years. Now I only do wordpress sites unless there is a legitimate reason to go with HTML.

I am getting more inclined to have a wordpress blog now. It is much easier to manage and to get the site up and running... ;-)
