    Wow, nice job, rochow!
How come I didn't think of it before?
The rep decrease shows how helpful the post is and throws some light on some DP members as well.
Nothing personal, but remember that DP is for exchanging tips, not for keeping them secret.

Not to do with them being on DP, but just some peoples personality in general. They like to feel better than everyone else and knowing something not everybody does is a way of feeling important.

Not aimed at anyone or anything!

Well, if you have a business, I think it's pretty easy to automatically get added to a couple of .gov websites. My brother owns a local business and he's got some .gov backlinks

Amazingly his site is also in dmoz, the domain is about 7 years old or something :)

Grest tip, but just one comment. Most .of these edu sites found using this method that I have seen have a NOFOLOW so i'm not sure if theres as much value as you initially thought in the links.

Lots of sites (even .com) use nofollow.

There are still plenty of .edu's which don't :)

thats fair anough if .com's use nofollow too, it means avoid those specific ones too. The point is, i have searched hell of a lot to find non NOFOLLOW .edu links and am yet to find one. How many have you found and how long did it take. I looked at say a couple of hundred + sites and am yet to come across one. I'd be interested to see where your finding them. My search was spread using various topics.

Having your link on an Edu or gov won't give you any more benefit than if the site was a .com

The key is how well trusted the domain is. Any site that gives out links for free to anybody isn't going to be a trusted domain for long. At the very least it will have its link passing ability nuked.

Unless you are a black hat spammer you really need to steer clear of spamming your links on edu domains.

mad, the links can potentially be posted as non spam if u add value to where your posting the link, which can be done. But i hear what your saying that some people will spam. But i'm still wandering whats it worth if the links have a nofolow anyway.

If they have nofollow don't waste your time.

If they have follow then go for gold. If you read my posts you'll see I outlined clearly not to spam and a method which I recommend

    Thanks.

The best way to fully utilize EDU/GOV forum links in my opinion is heading for automation. That takes way too much time to do it manually. Xrumer anyone?
