As many of you know, google is dominating the web. This search engine is helpful for most of us, however, Google is big and wants to grow more. This project isnt based on killing google, what we want to do is to stop google from growing. This will be hard but possible. Many of you wont like this project, others would like to participate. However, i'll explain some things about google. This project doesnt want you to stop getting what you already get from google, we want to stop google from growing and dominate the world, in addition, this project will give u more than what google does... READ ON Basically, we use google for generating more traffic for our sites, however, google is not the only search engine in the world. Many people consider google as their main traffic source, this is because we don't take the time to submit our site to other popular places. Now, Lets talk about PAGERANK. This tool google has created is overvalued by us, the webmasters. When we start a new site we think in these two things: Earn some $ and increase your site popularity(PR). I'm not saying that gaining PR is bad, but in my opinion, a web tool will NEVER determine the true popularity of your site. Now, what about adsense and adwords? We use adsense for gaining $ that people invest in adwords, When someone create a campaign in adwords and pay for it, they help google earn $. We like adsense because it comes from a trustable company. Google has enough money now, lets worry about us! We want money too! Here is the main fact: When someone is looking for something, the first thing they think of is Google, when someone wants to advertise, they think of Adwords, When someone wants money, Adsense... and so on... With this project i plan to make people think of it and instead of making google their first choice, think of others first. For this, i would propose a NEW search engine, but this search engine mustnt be like any other, Search engines are managed by ROBOTS and SPIDERS. I know that this genereation is leaded by machines/robots BUT we must make the difference to prove that a human is 200% more intelligent than a machine. This NEW SEARCH ENGINE must be managed by persons and robots! Think of it, a search engine managed by robots and persons, If google works just with robots, imagine something with robots and humans. This Search engine has to be as popular as google or more if possible, for this big project we have to include more than just a search engine, we should have an ads campaign like adsense/adwords. We must have an affiliate zone like commision junction or amazon. We must include an entertainment zone like Youtube. We must have a market like Ebay. We must have a profile/journal place like myspace or hi5. And finally... an information database like Wikipedia. Just imagine it! ALL IN ONE! The most popular sites reunited in one. Creating this new search engine we could stop google from dominating the web. If you approve this project, please vote for yes, if you dont, simply click no. Heh...sounds like Alexa's integration with DMOZ... *shrug* I voted yes, and the first step is to simply say 'please search' rather then 'google it'. And remember, if anyone calls you a whiner, wipe up your tears with a tissue, not a Kleenex

If you are going to use DMOZ as a base, or even a comparison, then it's VERY VERY VERY important that you understand both the pros and cons of the meaning of "humans do it better" because that most certainly applies to the loppsided corruption issues within the Open Directory Project. I think you'd do better with a merger of something more along the lines of Mikipedia & Google.

Do you have the funds , and war is the only thing that many people ever united around , building a new search engine is not easy.I am fine with google.
Human managed search engines are nothing new... cough.... mahalo for example. With that said, I am interested. If you go on with your project and need some people to do programming I may help out as much as I can.
Well it's not limited to google. Mark my words buddy- " MONEY TALKS PUBLIC WALKS". Microsoft has dominated the operating system industry. Arab nations have dominated the oil industry. You can see it all around you. You need to understand one thing that google is not owned by one specific owner. Google is a joint stock company. So the best thing would be is to buy the majority of it's shares and own the company. Be ready to invest billions of dollars.
There are sufficient competitors like msn, yahoo against google but still it can't stop google's dominance be honest google engine is not built in one day; it's more sophiscated than you can think of
Incoming links from a competitor are certainly not a bad thing, so removing yourself from their list would, in a way, be counter productive. The first step would be to stop encouraging visitors to return to google. By not using any of Google services. No Coop, no search box, no adsense, don't use a gmail account in your contact information, etc...
Hmmm... I would say... forget it, i've tought of it very good, now i realize that stopping google would take years of effort. Better we forget this
