Anyone else find it funny that syedwasi87 has a hard time with Qryztufre's name??? (Sorry, it's off topic, but I just had to say something!)
Don't go with phpBB, you'll be in for a ton of spam. Even if you opt for a free forum, get something else like SMF.
Yes, but can you edit it all (templates) in GUI? Being able to edit templates in GUI is more usable and useful rather than editing and uploading updated/changed files. Also phpBB template system lacks when it comes to make some advanced IF statements inside *.tpl files. I don't want to and I'm not saying that phpBB is smth horrible and unusable, but it lacks of many things that are integrated by default in other forums scripts. phpBB is a great script to start with when it comes to forums, but I wouldn't recommend it for big boards. SMF, yes I think it is also a great script and a bit unappreciated.
finally i decided to go with phpbb..atm..maybe later i might change into Vb. btw IPB is also quite famous and used by big companies or so..i have heard..
SMF is the best Free script vBulletin is the best forum script . So if you have the money go for vB . Or get SMF 1.1.2 , lots of mods & themes available , add TinyPortal to it & upgrade to SMF2 when it is released. Installation of mods & themes is very very easy. Just upload & apply mod .
True - Though phpBB is obsolete now hence it lacking in a lot of things, but the new one will cater for it all. (or so it seems)
hm..phpbb3 is totally different..so many njew features.. i hop[e it goes well on my forum... it aint like phpbb2
try mybb its very similar to vb but has the same price tag as phpbb so you get the best of both, the support forum isnt as big as either vb or phpbb but it is growing and the staff and members are very knowledgable
I don't completely agree with that. If you update regularly, you're relatively safe. Additionally, there are a lot of safety mods, so ... But people are right in this thread: if you can afford it, go with vbulletin. Professional support if you have a problem. Customizable, many features, but most important is: very userfriendly. Myself I work most with phpBB, not only because vbull still costs a lot to me, but also, I code a lot with phpBB, so ... vBulletin codes easy too, though, made some kind of free hosting 'management' panel for it earlier.
