Images and traffic

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Thibaut, Jun 14, 2007.

Lol, my wife has a blog and she posted few days ago an article about Britney Spear and a picture of her as well. Last Sunday, the traffic totally exploded from 100 UV to several thousand. I know there are some great discussions dealing with this new SEO feature but I can't understand why this simple picture ranks so well in Google images.

Any feedback about image SEO ?

    Regards
    Thibaut

You need to put the keywords in the alt text, the filename and in the surrounding text.

A few months ago I got a similar jump with a picture of another popular celebrity.
The links on images.google.com are not direct links. They have tracking codes, so Google can detect the clicks on images. I guess that the images most clicked are ranked higher.

I'm quite disillusioned about image search hits. I get quite a lot, but it doesn't go anywhere- they rarely look at anything else on the site, they're just interested in the one picture.

I agree, image search is low quality traffic that doesn't covert well. I used the frame buster script and after a month I stopped getting image search traffic. I decide to turn the frame buster script off and put my url in the images....

Surrounding text needs to be near image in source code, not just close on the page.

And also put your keywords in the URL of the image location (seperated by hyphens).

I have created a script to make the image searchers who want to hotlink your images link to you.

    http://www.blogstorm.co.uk/blog/use-google-images-and-hotlinkers-to-build-links/

I will be posting a Wordpress plugin and a video to show it in action next week. Just ironing out a few bugs.

Basically you just run the script and your site automatically builds natural links all the time for free.
