webmanfirst was right, this guy will not pay you for work. He's tricky about it though. He had me post 30 postings and kept saying they were "incorrect" so he got 30 free postings from me. When I asked for compensation for those postings, he would not give it to me. He also will not pay any money in advance which I find odd for a project of this capacity.

Kate never made 30 posts and never even got started on the project. She wants something for nothing. I offer to pay her a few dollars for her time and never heard back from her. Most of the posts she sent me which were more around 15 were incorrect and did not follow the guidlines I had set.

If your going to do the work, I am more than willing to pay, but this woman didn't even start and put up much of an effort.

I offered to use a service like rentacoder or elance or any escrow service that would hold the money from through a 3rd party service, that way both of us are protected, but she declined. I will not just deposit a lump sum of money before any work is even done, if I have not worked with the coder/writer before.

I tried to meet with her in the middle, but she now has to decided to take the whining route and host illegitamate accusations of the project that wasn't even started!

Some of these people never seem to surprise me.

He didn't set the record straight. I got started on the project by sending him 25 links to my posts. When I asked him for half, he did offer an escrow option but I didn't see why he wouldn't just pay 50% if he was genuine so I opted out of the project. It infuriates me that he says I put no effort in as I changed the signature links for all 4 forums he wants posts for 5 different times. He did say, after I asked him three times, that he would pay me $2 for the original 25 posts I sent and I sent him an email stating that I was agreeable to that. I have not received a reply or any funds. I did put effort in, I am a reputable poster on DP and many people have been happy with my work. I'm done with this now, he can say whatever he wants.

If I was genuine? It's the same reason why you wouldn't start the project without any funds. I don't pay someone upfront that I haven't worked with before, because it is very easy for you or anyone to take off with the money or sacrifice quality. Seems pretty common sense to me.

You didn't even mention wanting 50% upfront until after you posted 15 posts. This should have been something you mentioned before you even got started, that way all this would have been prevented.

just as a tip grafx, people ask for 50% upfront for that very purpose, if they have not worked with someone before it is a shared risk between seller and buyer. to pay upfront for someone with whom you have a working relationship already established simply does not make sense. Asking for 50% when you have no background on the buyer is not uncommon. Asking for it during a job again, when you have no background on the buyer and things are looking questionable, again, is not uncommon. many writers do this. it's ok, I don't expect you to understand that, you only have 3 iTraders and obviously have not worked with many quality writers. But always, a quality writer will protect themselves first before trying to make a quick buck.

it is unfortunate that our new writers on this forum are being treated this way, I certainly hope it does not deter them from sticking around, we need them! writers beware, when someone only has 3 iTraders in a period of 12 months, it is not a good sign.

kate is my editor on one of my long term projects, and I happen to know she was not available for some work for me this week as for three days straight she told me about the "dog forum posting job" she was working on....I just wanted to vouch for that.

FOXLORE -- hope you see this! I love that website you posted and have it bookmarked. SCAMMERS BEWARE! LOL

    Hey Chrissie,

Im glad she has done good work for you. Congratulations.

I also realize that it is not uncommon for writers or posters to ask for 50% upfront, but I am not comfortable with that option. Not criticizing Kates character, but some so called writers will take off with the payment.

I have hired MANY writers for many different sites I run. Some through DP, but most of them have been through writer service websites and freelance networks. I have found a few in the past on DP, but most here seem to be flaky, hence why I opted to pay her through an escrow service.

I think calling a writer a whiner is criticizing their character, and to be frank, while it was an effort on your part to put her down, it screamed your lack of professionalism to this community. While YOU may spend your time on other forums or freelancing sites, in THIS particular one, slamming writers is generally not taken lightly.

That there are a host of other writers claming you have taken their work and not compensated proves this lack of professionalism.

Besides which, I think if she had already done work for you and proved that to you, then submitting partial payment shouldn't be an issue. I just find it hard to believe a common ground could not have been found. Even if you were not comfortable with teh 50%, perhaps a mutually agreed upon up-front amount could have been established when it got to the point where tensions were arising. Perhaps 15 or 20% just to show her good faith, as she had already submitted good faith to YOU by starting the job. Let's remember that YOU were HER client, you are the one that has to prove something to HER (and to everyone else that has offered to provide you their posting services), not the other way around.

This may be one of those situations where the more you say at this point just makes you look worse.
