Hi DP members, my first post here. I need an ecommerce script for a client. And I have a few questions/requirements: 1 - Will the free scripts that come with cpanel/fantastico do the job? What are their shortcomings? Any security holes there? 2 - I need to add a couple of gateway payments because it is for a specific country that has its own payment system and also the client wants users to be able to pay on their address when they receive the product. 3 - Ideally it needs to be seo optimized. Do you have any recommended script? (free or paid) Cheers guys.
Check out CubeCart. It can handle international sales and already has a bunch of gateways you can plug in. http://www.cubecart.com/site/home/ Jim
commercial carts = X-cart or Cre loaded Open source = Zen Cart CMS = Virtual Mart for Joomla I'm using Cre Loaded and Virtual Mart
Zencart seems to be quite popular. You might also simply use PayPal or PayDot.com which offer some sort of solutions.
I see that in Fantastico as a free script. Is this a free version with limited capabilities compared to the one selling for $89 ? I'm looking at both zen and cubecart. But I'll definitely gonna need some modifications to accept other payment methods. Thanks guys.
I don't know about Cubecart...But Zen cart should be good enough....it has plenty of mods and free templates...check their forum
The free version has full capabilities. The $89 payment is optional if you want to remove their copyright at the bottom, which reads.... Jim
We use oscommerce for about 3 years for our high volumn ecommerce site, very satisfy about the perfermence..free and easy customize.recommend...
Thanks. Cubecart it is I guess. I just need to get a programmer. I posted in the cubecart forum but no one replied. Anyone can recommend a good freelance site? I heard rentacoder is better than scriptlance. I would like to post here in DP but I don't have permissions yet ..
I'd reccomend cubecart too, If you can it may be worth waiting for their next release which should be within a couple of months. as it has a great deal of new features.
They release a new version every few months. Upgrading is usually not that difficult unless you have a lot of modifications. You also don't need to upgrade if you are happy with the present version. In fact, I would not wait for a new version with a great deal of new features, since "new features" usually means time to work the bugs out. Jim
